Planes, Trains & Automobiles
There are five lightrail transit stations throughout downtown and busses that stop at malls, major attractions and office buidings. There is also a 13-km indoor pedway system that links to major shopping centres, restaurants and the movie theatre, so you don’t have to brave the cold winter weather. The ‘vroom’ service is a direct shuttle bus to West Edmonton mall, the largest mall in North America.
The Good, the Bad & the Rest
Residents of Downtown Edmonton enjoy a variety of grocery stores, including a year-round farmer’s market that provides fresh produce, local art, jewelery and clothing. Shopping spots mainly include Edmonton City Centre Mall, and boutique shops along 104 Street and Jasper Ave. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants throughout the city, especially on 103 Street.
Dollars & Sense
Amazing food, interesting restaurants, friendly atmosphere and lively nightlife – what’s not to love about Downtown Edmonton? Although there is a lot of excitement about the new developments, there is some concern about an increase in traffic. There is also a perception that Downtown Edmonton is unsafe, due to crime levels in areas such as Chinatown and McCauley, which are higher than in other cities, including Vancouver and Toronto.
