Named after the English town where the legend of King Arthur and the Holy Grail was born, Glastonbury is the Holy Grail for young families looking for a safe, residential neighbourhood with lots of open park space. Located between Whitemud Drive and 62nd Avenue just west of the Anthony Henday, the community is part of the Grange area in southwest Edmonton.
The expansion of the city to the southwest at the turn of the century attracted young Edmontonians looking for a place to raise their kids. The new development came with well-considered design elements that included parks, shopping, and schools – all of which made it so residents wouldn’t have to travel far to enjoy all the essential amenities.

Being right on two of Edmonton’s major roadways is a benefit for residents who need to travel around the city. Anthony Henday Drive can take drivers to the farthest reaches of the city in minutes. Whitemud Drive provides immediate access to south Edmonton. And while public transit is not yet in an ideal state, the proposed west LRT expansion slated for nearby Lewis Estates should improve things.
Finding new places to develop in Edmonton is getting harder which has forced people to move further away from the core. Landscaping and useful public services (e.g., transit) in these areas are still in their infancy. The flip side of this is that residents of Glastonbury can enjoy new, well-built homes without the worries of pending repairs.
Income levels in Glastonbury are above the city average, while children appear to be the primary destination for those dollars. Ferrying the kids to soccer or hockey practice and dance lessons can get expensive and busy. That’s why affordable family restaurants are popular for active families here. The ample park space is also a free alternative to spend an evening with the family.
