Heritage Valley is in Edmonton’s sprawling south west, made up of several new neighbourhoods. Most are named after Edmontonians who played a prominent role in the cities development over the last century. It’s located between Calgary Trail and south Whitemud Creek, starting south of Ellerslie Road and ending at 41st avenue. Considered the fastest growing part of the city, this family-friendly suburbia is expanding with plenty of brand-new housing options, commercial areas, new schools and access to public transportation.
Residents enjoy life in this quiet neighbourhood which is full of parks and ravine nature trails. They’d rather live here and commute to work and soon won’t have to drive to amenities as upcoming development includes more shopping centres, recreation facilities and schools. Heritage Valley is a classic suburban neighbourhood, but not exactly the cookie-cutter type. New development includes townhomes, semi-detached homes and apartments attracting both renters and buyers.
The neighbourhoods closest to Ellerslie Road are the most developed and are already vibrant with family-life including cul-de-sac street hockey games, picnics at the playground and senior walking groups in the Blackmud Ravine Park. Excitement grows as the neighbourhoods develop to the west, offering more amenities without having to leave this relaxing community nestled in nature.
The new developments are a paradise for new home buyers and newcomers to Edmonton. Sharp, modern condos have attracted young professionals as well as downsizing empty-nesters. This is a family neighbourhood too as many hope to raise their growing families along with a growing community.
Health and medical services are available in the area and schools are located in the neighbourhoods near Ellerslie Road. Residents don’t have to go far to access major amenities as the massive South Edmonton Common shopping area is within a five minute drive. Jump onto the Queen Elizabeth Highway 2 and you’ll be at the Edmonton International Airport in 15 minutes.
Thanks to Anthony Henday Drive, Edmonton’s ring road, residents can whip out of the neighbourhood and head just about anywhere in the city. Calgary Trail leads you right out of town towards the airport and the booming industrial areas of Nisku and Leduc where many people work. Some major bus routes are here and the city has plans to expand the LRT and other public transit routes.
Heritage Valley is a brand-new growing community and residents are excited to be a part of that growth. New restaurants, shops, recreation and community services are popping up all the time. Unfortunately, with growth comes construction in the area and lots of it. Busy construction sites, muddy roads and beeping-backhoes are a part of everyday life here, especially in the far south.
It’s mostly new-builds but is still priced about average for Edmonton depending on your taste. There are lots of options that cater to different budgets from one-bedroom apartments to luxury estate homes. There are strip-mall restaurants offering affordable lunches and sit-down steak houses that might be a little more pricy. All in all, the prices here are about what you might expect.
This whimsical gift shop and garden centre was once a landmark located ‘just out of town’. It’s surrounded by development but is still a favourite place to shop for plants, seeds, gardening supplies, decor and unique gifts.
