Introduction

An urban-inspired suburb within the city, Windermere is a vibrant new development located in southwest Edmonton. The area is bordered by the North Saskatchewan River and Whitemud Creek Ravine and is easily accessible from Anthony Henday Drive, the city’s ring road. It includes the communities of Ambleside, Windermere North, Upper Windermere, Langdale, Glen Ridding, Riverpointe, Keswick, Westpoint Estates and Windermere Drive.

Windermere is a safe, friendly and welcoming community with an abundance of modern amenities. Because of this, residents can do their banking, grocery shop and pick up their prescriptions without leaving the community. According to the City of Edmonton's 2012 Municipal Census, there are more than 2,100 people living in the community with most in the 25 to 39 and under 10 age range – making it a popular neighbourhood among the younger set.

Although Windermere is a younger community, the neighhbourhood can be considered an above average area to live in, although you can still find some great value and budget finds. Even still, unless you're willing to live a lifestyle that's affords a bit more than average luxury, Windermere may not be the right fit for you.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Conveniently linked to two major thoroughfares, Anthony Henday Drive and Whitemud Drive, residents can easily access downtown and the rest of the city. The popular Terwillegar Recreation Centre, South Edmonton Common and the Edmonton International Airport are just a short drive away. For those without a vehicle, public transit is available during peak hours.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

The Edmonton Police Service's Southwest Division Station is located just a couple of minutes away on Windermere Way. A medical centre is set to open in 2014 and two schools will be built in the area in the next three to five years, with space for more than 1,600 students.

Dollars & Sense

Southwest Edmonton has seen major growth in the past few years. Its rising popularity has resulted in challenges such as increased vehicle traffic and longer bus rides for public transit users. On the positive side, Windermere residents appreciate the feeling of small town living in a friendly, walkable neighbourhood filled with amenities and the calm and beauty of greenspaces and parklands.
