Garden City is located within West Kildonan, a Winnipeg area historically significant for the 1816 Battle of Seven Oaks that resulted in fur trade rivals The Northwest Company and Hudson's Bay Company joining forces. Today, residents can enjoy the area's mature trees, active community centre, convenient shopping, and proximity to Kildonan Park with its playgrounds, skating pond, and outdoor swimming pool.
Gardening is big here, not only in the parks and green spaces, but in the names of the streets – Crocus, Daffodil, Bluebell, and Peony, to name a few. From swimming in the summer to skating in the winter, there are lots of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Follow up the tranquility of nature with a lively night at one of Winnipeg's premier nightclubs, Essence, located on McPhillips Street.
