Haddow

Edmonton

Introduction

Parkland and pathways highlight the well-appointed neighbourhood of Haddow in Edmonton’s southeast. It is one of the communities that make up the Terwillegar Heights area. The predominantly low-density community is bordered by lush parkland to the north and west, and by major transportation roads in the southeast (Terwillegar Drive) and southwest (Anthony Henday).

Lifestyle

This is an upscale community that is popular with professionals and families. The strategically located pathways around the many parks and open spaces make the neighbourhood feel more connected and enjoyable for kids, couples and seniors. The storm water ponds in the south and river valley to the northwest are a joy for outdoor enthusiasts.

Dollars & Sense

This is a well-to-do community, with 37 per cent of residents reporting household income above $150,000 and six of every 10 households making more than $100,000 (according to 2011 Statistics Canada census data). Homes are bigger and newer as most development occurred in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, not to mention more expensive than many other neighbourhoods you would find in the Terwillegar area.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

Downtown workers won’t likely be enthralled with the commute from Haddow. Getting from the southeast to downtown is a long, jagged route that can be frustrating, given Edmonton’s notorious construction season. However, if you work on the south side near the University of Alberta or anywhere along Anthony Henday Drive, the commute is just a minor inconvenience.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

One of the biggest benefits for Haddow residents is the ease of getting elsewhere in the city despite being on the edge of Edmonton. Having access to Anthony Henday means the airport or north Edmonton are both just 20 minutes away. Terwillegar Road provides access to Whitemud Drive, keeping much of south Edmonton and the University of Alberta within a short drive.

In the Area

Being next to the river valley is a plus for outdoor enthusiasts, but recreational opportunities are also available at the Terwillegar Rec Centre nearby, or at the River Ridge Golf and Country Club. Terwillegar Road also makes it easy to access shopping at Riverbend Square Shopping Centre or the Currents of Windermere on the other side of Anthony Henday Drive.

Meet the Neighbours

Haddow is a favourite for families with higher incomes but it also has a diversity you don’t see in many high-end neighbourhoods. Many ethnicities from around the globe are represented here (according to 2011 Statistics Canada census). The age range of residents is evenly distributed too, thanks to several condominium complexes that appeal to seniors.

The Vibe

Haddow’s vibe could best be described as quiet and peaceful. It has amenities for any age, from programs and sports fields for young kids to the nature trails in the river valley for active adults, and quiet paved paths through the tree-lined boulevards with park benches for older residents. It is a well-designed community that keeps everyone's interests at heart.
