Introduction
Highfield is located in the West Royalty area of Charlottetown. Malpeque Road serves as its northern boundary, and it runs to Royalty Junction Road in the east then down along Towers Road to University Avenue in the south. From there, the neighbourhood extends up along Ellen’s Creek to Sleepy Hollow Road and back to Malpeque, forming an irregular shape.
Lifestyle
Highfield is a newer part of town, with housing developments from the 1970s onward. It’s a residential area with a lot of shopping available, as well as all the amenities most families require. Whether you’re looking for groceries, dinner, clothes, cars, boats, or movies, you’ll find everything you need in this varied neighbourhood.
Dollars & Sense
As the neighbourhood is home to a range of fast food and nicer restaurants, along with boutiques and big box stores, there is something for every budget in this part of Charlottetown. There are several parks and green spaces, as well as ponds and creeks, for the outdoor enthusiasts, and Confederation Trail runs along the western portion of the neighbourhood.
The Good, the Bad & the Rest
This is a fairly young, growing neighbourhood, with some of the busiest shopping areas and busiest roads running through it. That may make it a bit more noisy and active than some people might like. However, Charlottetown is not a large city, and the surrounding natural beauty helps make up for any shortcomings.

Highfield is easily accessible on foot, by bicycle, car, and public transit. As the neighbourhood is close to central Charlottetown, it is easy to get to the shopping districts and residential areas. Main roads run through the community, as does the Trans-Canada Highway, making any place on the island accessible from Highfield.
In the Area
Highfield is a combination of business, retail, and residential. There are schools, banks, churches, postal outlets, and several automotive businesses nearby. Restaurants, coffee shops, drugstores, big box retailers, and specialty shops can be found in the area. It’s a nice neighbourhood, with plenty of green space, parks, hiking trails, ponds and creeks for those who like to get outside.
Meet the Neighbours
The residential areas of Highfield are mostly home to young, growing families and middle-class to upper-middle-class professionals. The extensive shopping district attracts people of all ages and from all walks of life. As the residences are mostly houses rather than apartments, there may tend to be more families than singles occupying the area at any given time.
The Vibe
There’s always something to do in Highfield, although the more residential areas are a bit quieter. The area attracts young families and there is plenty of room to grow in this part of town, which was mostly farmland and woodland a century ago. Highfield’s two schools, along with many parks and sports fields, help keep the kids entertained.
