Hodgson

Edmonton

Introduction

The utility corridor that is the north border of Hodgson has lengthy walking trails to enjoy. Whitemud Creek Ravine acts as an eastern border, while the Edmonton-spanning 23rd Avenue spans the southern limits. Rabbit Hill Road is another main thoroughfare and is also the west border of this newer southwest Edmonton community.

Lifestyle

Many of the residents in Hodgson are older than the homes that have been built there, as all residential construction occurred in the early 2000s. The natural and man-made wetlands in the middle of Hodgson, along with nearby Whitemud Creek, make this a nature-lovers' community. With a commercial complex in the southwest, a part-time job would be easy to come by.

Dollars & Sense

You'll find decent prices for the essentials here care of Tim Horton’s and Original Joe’s. This is a much higher income area than most of Edmonton, according to the most recent Statistics Canada census: average household income is $200,000. Rentals for apartments or houses are hard to come by and comparatively expensive.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

While there are no major community services, schools, or religious institutions in this community, that may be a good trade-off for the amount of accessible nature. Edmonton Transit in this area is infrequent and only travels through a small portion of the entire community. The new homes and condos are sure to be up to the highest standards.

Hodgson is exactly between the Whitemud and Anthony Henday Drives, making the rest of the city pretty accessible if Rabbit Hill or 23rd Avenue are not faster.

In the Area

The man-made wetland is perfect for a daily walk while the green space to the south of the wetlands has a community park and more walking paths. Trails throughout Whitemud Creek are a great alternative to 23rd Avenue for crossing the ravine. Shopping is very accessible with the commercial park surrounding the Rabbit Hill Road and 23rd Avenue intersection.

Meet the Neighbours

People of Asian or British origin are the most popular demographics in the area. According to the 2011 census, residents are evenly distributed amongst all age ranges. That means, on any given day, you could see seniors strolling with grandchildren in hand. New families with children and three people or more in each household are common.

The Vibe

High-end clothing shops are situated alongside newer restaurant and eatery chains like Original Joe’s and Taco Del Mar. The commercial block that resides on Rabbit Hill Road and 23rd Avenue is home to local entrepreneurs and small businesses. But if shopping and traffic are not on your schedule, the ravine is host to many naturally beautiful scenes to enjoy.
