Hollick-Kenyon, Brintnell and McConachie

Edmonton

Introduction

Hollick-Kenyon, Brintnell and McConachie are located in Edmonton’s far northeast corner. The neighbourhoods are located between 66th street and Manning Drive, with 153rd avenue bordering south and Anthony Henday Drive north. A range of newer homes, well-designed pedestrian pathways and access to major freeways make this neighbourhood a desirable place to live.

Lifestyle

Welcome to suburbia. This is a beautiful, newer community offering large homes, upscale condos and pleasant neighbourhood for those who don’t mind the commute to work. Most residents own their home and have above average incomes. A comfortable lifestyle is evident here. Walks around the neighbourhood ponds, trips to the shopping centre and back yard barbecues are all regular weekend activities.

Dollars & Sense

The homes here are newer, but are priced at city-averages for their size and features. Though you won’t find a super bargain here, those with a lower budget can still find fairly priced apartment condos and duplexes. The stores and restaurants are all chains and none are fancy or upscale, so running errands and going for dinner will not set you back.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

Hollick-Keynon, Brintell and McConachie are literally on the northeast edge of the city. Once you’re off Manning Drive, the neighbourhood is quiet with minimal traffic, but there will be a commute to work. This is, however, the best location in Edmonton for the many who work in the industrial areas in and near Fort Saskatchewan with Manning Drive turning into Highway 15 and heading straight out of town.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Drivers can head south on Manning Drive to get to Yellowhead Drive via 50th street or Wayne Gretzky Drive to head downtown. Drive north and you’ll be on Highway 15 or the Anthony Henday ring road in mere moments. There are bus routes through the neighbourhood that will take you to the Claireview Transit Station. Here you can catch the LRT straight downtown.

In the Area

The neighbourhood is serviced by a few newer strip-mall style shopping centres providing the basics like grocery stores, banks and restaurants. The Manning Town Centre has large box-stores and a movie theatre. Options for schools include Edmonton Christian School and a junior high school, but additional schools as well as medical clinics and recreation centres are located in nearby communities.

Meet the Neighbours

The majority of residents here are established professionals in their 30s through early 50s, and more than half of of households have children living in the home, while the rest are divided among single or married couples without kids. There is a small population of people with East and Southeast Asian origin, providing a welcomed ethnic diversity.

The Vibe

This community looks and feels like most newer suburban neighbourhood. Wide streets, lined with two story homes with attached garages, break off into cul-de-sacs, conveniently connected by multi-use trails. These connecting walk ways lead to several parks and around well-landscaped storm water ponds, perfect for evening walks or to find a spot for an afternoon picnic.
