Introduction

Pont-Viau is a small neighbourhood in the city of Laval, named after its bridge that bears the same name. It is bordered by route 335, or Boulevard des Laurentides, which separates the neighbourhood from Laval-des-Rapides to the west. To the east, Rue Notre-Dame de Fatima, borders the area. To the south, you’ll find the Rivière-des-Prairies and to the north is Vimont.

Life in Pont-Viau reflects the lifestyle of other neighbourhoods in Laval: suburban, with hints of city life and lots of green space. Pont Viau residents spend most of their time along the main streets or in the parks. There are small businesses all along the Boulevard des Laurentides and Boulevard de la Concorde.

The vibe in Pont-Viau is fairly suburban, with hints of city life everywhere you go. The main streets are fairly busy, with strips of local businesses, restaurants and clubs along the popular Boulevard des Laurentides. Many residents spend their time by the waterfront, where there are great views of Rivière-des-Prairies and of Montreal.

People in the neighbourhood are mostly French-speaking Quebecers, with people from other backgrounds starting to enter the area. There are many families in the area, as well as many single people and couples without children. People in the area make average amounts of money – you won’t find many extravagant folks in the neighbourhood.

Pont-Viau is home to many small businesses and mom and pop shops. Along the two main streets, Boulevard des Laurentides and Boulevard de la Concorde is where you’ll find grocery stores, gyms, a movie theatre and more than a few strip clubs. There are also quite a few parks in the small area, with a larger one by the water.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

The most attractive selling point about Pont-Viau is the Cartier metro station in the area, which allows for an easy commute between Laval and Montreal. Highway 440, which runs through Laval, is located nearby. Route 335, or Boulevard des Laurentides also crosses into Montreal. There are also local bus routes running through the area.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

Pont-Viau is a small community along the waterfront in Laval. It’s a rather suburban area, with quaint houses and lots of green space. There is also a hint of big city life. There are many small businesses along the main streets, however, you can’t escape a certain grunginess that lingers given the adult entertainment in the area.

Dollars & Sense

Pont-Viau is definitely not an extravagant area of Laval. There are many inexpensive discount stores like Village des Valeurs, and dining options remain casual and pretty cheap. Spending in the area is rather low and reflects the income levels of the population. For trendier dining and entertainment, most people head to the busier parts of Laval.
