Sainte-Rose

Laval

Introduction

Quaint and village-like, Saint-Rose sits on the northern edge of Laval. It is bordered to the north by the Rivière des Mille-Îles. The region is bordered to the west by Highway 15, which separates Saint-Rose from Fabreville. To the south, you’ll find Chomedey, and the to east lie both Auteuil and Vimont.

Lifestyle

Life in Sainte-Rose is rather suburban and village-like. Walking through the old part of the Sainte-Rose area, you get the feeling of a small town, close-knit community. Most of the area is residential, with small homey dwellings as well as a few newer developments in the eastern part of town.

The Vibe

The vibe in Sainte-Rose is one of a small town where everyone knows each other. Walking on Boulevard Sainte-Rose, in the older part of the area, is almost like being on the set of a movie with its painted business signs and waterfront paths – it’s pretty darn cute. There is also a large residential area with parks and schools.

Meet the Neighbours

Given the quaint and suburban nature of the area, and the abundance of schools, it shouldn’t be surprising to find many families and children. Most people are from the province of Quebec and are primarily French-speaking. With new developments of larger homes, there has also been a recent influx of higher income families.

In the Area

The area is, for the most part, very residential. There is a mix of older homes as well as lots of new construction. Most of the action happens along the main streets, most notably Boulevard Curé-Labelle and Boulevard Sainte-Rose, where you’ll find the area’s best local restaurants and shops. Sainte-Rose is home to many schools, as well as a large wooded area, perfect for long nature walks.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Sainte-Rose is located just east of Highway 15, which connects with Montreal and the Laurentians. It is also fairly close to Highway 440, which runs east to west through Laval. STL buses run through the area, connecting residents with other parts of Laval. There is also an AMT train stop on the Saint-Jérôme line, which runs right into Montreal.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

Sainte-Rose offers picturesque waterfront living, while remaining quite close to the busy parts of Laval, like Chomedey. The small village vibes are charming and offer a sense of belonging. While some enjoy the close-knit community, some may find it a little too small and slow-paced for their liking. While it’s close to many major roads, sometimes it seems out of the way.

Dollars & Sense

Because of its small town nature, the area isn’t very expensive. Homes here are on average a little bit more expensive than in the rest of Laval. All shops and restaurants along Boulevard Sainte-Rose are local and one of a kind, and not many are lavish in nature. For luxurious spending, most people will head to Chomedey to the larger shopping centre.
