Mill Woods Town Centre is located in Mill Woods in southeast Edmonton. The community essentially consists of two neighbourhoods: Tawa and Mill Woods Town Centre. It is bound by 23rd and 34th avenues with 66th Street bordering on the west and 50th Street bordering on the east. It is where most southeast Edmonton residents go for shopping, dining, entertainment, healthcare and other services.
Things are busy for those who live right in Mill Woods Town Centre. Much of the area consists of the shopping centre, office buildings, hospital and medical centres and other commercial developments, but residents love the quick access to all these urban comforts. Most live in high density areas that are conveniently within walking distance of all the amenities including the public transit station.
Expect to pay city averages for real estate in Mill Woods Town Centre, but expect to get something a little newer for your money. There are a few 55-plus and semi-gated communities that are more expensive, but for the most part you can find real value here. Shops and restaurants are mostly chains or inexpensive strip mall stops, so daily life can be quite affordable.
While most of Mill Woods was developed in the 1970s, the Mill Woods Town Centre community was constructed mostly in the 1990s and continued into the early 2000s. That’s why you’ll find newer homes and the majority of them are duplexes, row homes, walk-up and even highrise apartment buildings. It has attracted people who want a newer home in a more affordable area.
You can get in and out of Mill Woods Town Centre quite easily as 50th or 66th streets will take you to Whitemud Drive, were you can connect with other major Edmonton roadways. South on 50th Street will lead to the Anthony Henday ring road. Public transportation is great here, with the Mill Woods Transit Centre offering bus routes to basically anywhere in the city.
Everything is in the area! Most notably is the Grey Nuns Community Hospital and nearby Tawa Centre, a hub for healthcare services. Shops, dining, entertainment, supermarkets, banks and the public library are all here at the Mill Woods Town Centre shopping mall. You’ll also find the Mill Woods Transit Centre, which provides public transportation to anywhere in the city.
There is a pretty good mix of people in Mill Woods Town Centre. The latest municipal census reported a high number of seniors over 70 years old, mostly in the Tawa area. The southern part of the neighbourhood is mostly apartment condos and that has attracted a lot of singles and first-time homebuyers, but for the most part you’ll find a balance mix of family types, ages and ethnicities.
It’s pretty busy around Mill Woods Town Centre, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. People are always busily going about their day, running errands and attending medical appointments. The centrally located Tawa Park offers solitude from the traffic on 28th and 23rd avenues and if you can sneak onto one of the few residential streets you’ll find newer homes, large trees and a little peace and quiet.
Kick back and relax after a long work week with drinks and all your favourite pub fare. Bo’diddley’s is the happening neighbourhood pub where friends like to socialize on Friday and Saturday nights.
