NEIGHBOURHOOD

De Lorimier

Montréal

Introduction

De Lorimier is an older neighbourhood that runs along a section of De Lorimier Street at the far Eastern tip of the Plateau Montreal. The area begins at Avenue Papineau on its west edge and along the train tracks past rue Masson to the north and down on the other side of Rue Frontenac to the east. Its south border runs along Sherbrooke Street East.

Lifestyle

Living in De Lorimier is like the other quieter neighbourhoods in the area like Rosemont and the edges of the plateau. It's trendy, young and there's plenty of good food, cafés and other hot spots. The main difference is that life out here is a little bit slower and more relaxed than by St-Denis and St-Laurent streets further west. You won't run into any massive crowds of students or tourists.

The Vibe

De Lorimier has a great vibe and lifestyle. It's still in the trendy section of town, but it's hardly ever too busy and crowded. You can walk it's streets, take in the old buildings, and not even have to see anything in particular just to feel welcome and at home.

Meet the Neighbours

De Lorimier has a mix of long-term residents and students; though when you walk the streets or pause for a coffee or a beer you'll definitely pick up on the younger vibe and lifestyle. The people that live here are also out and about quite often, whether by bike or walking.

In the Area

De Lorimier is right next door to some of the busiest parts of town - especially in the warmer summer months. You're right next door to Parc La Fontaine and within walking distance to Parc Mount Royal to the West or the Olympic park to the East. Lots of outdoor activities available.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

De Lorimier is an area built for people who don't mind walking in the winter and biking in the summer. There are few bus routes, and no metro stations in the neighbourhood. You can get around fairly easily by car, but good luck finding any parking unless you live around here.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

It's a great neighbourhood for people who like to walk, but less so for others who'd rather drive or hop on the buses. Also, there are quite a few parks inside the neighbourhood, but they mostly pale in comparison to the ones in the nearby areas. You might have to travel to get to more outdoor areas.

Dollars & Sense

There are all the amenities you need in the area, but De Lorimier has a lot of small specialty stores and restaurants as opposed to big chain grocers or shopping outlets. Regular shopping will be a little on the pricey side because of this, so you might have to drive out of the neighbourhood.
