Located on the northern edge of the Island of Montreal, the Montreal-North borough offers suburban life without being too secluded. It is bordered by the Rivière des Prairies to the north. To the south, Boulevard Industriel and the Canadian National railway separate the area from Saint-Leonard. You will see Ahuntsic-Cartierville to the west, and Rivière-des-Prairies—Pointe-aux-Trembles to the east.

Located on the north shore of the island, Montreal North offers all of the benefits of a quiet suburban area, all while remaining close to the city. The many parks and family activity centres make it a popular place for families. It’s a very multicultural area known for its affordability with easy access to both Montreal and Laval.

Meet the Neighbours
You’ll find yourself among many families when roaming the Montreal North neighbourhood. While most residents are Quebecers, there is also a large immigrant population, with people hailing from Haiti, Algeria many other middle-eastern countries. The population is mostly French speaking, but odds are you’ll hear another language while you’re out and about.
In the Area
There are about 20 parks in Montreal North, all with different playgrounds, fields and other amenities. There are many small stores and big box stores along many of the main roads like Boulevard Henri Bourrassa and Boulevard Pie IX. Along the waterfront you’ll find many lookout spots with views of the neighbouring Laval.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles
There are many main boulevards in Montreal North leading to downtown Montreal, as well as the city of Laval. The area shares a commuter train stop with Saint-Leonard, which leads to with Mascouche or Montreal. While there are no metro stops in the area, there are plenty of STM buses running through the area.
The Good, the Bad & the Rest
Montreal North offers peaceful, waterfront living, without being too far from the city. It’s a multi-faceted, multi-cultural area, with many cultural and youth centres, making the area attractive for families. On the flip side, you will mostly find big box shops and chain restaurants – local businesses seem to be a rare find.
Dollars & Sense
Montreal North is not one of the most luxurious spots in town, which is why you’ll find large big box stores like Walmart and Super C in the area. The vast majority of restaurants are informal, and not very pricy and there is a lack of fancy cafés. Real estate costs also much less than the average of the Island of Montreal.
