Rosemont (sometimes referred to as "View Rosemont" to distinguish this neighbourhood from the newer sections) is a neighbourhood on the east edge of Montreal's downtown metro zone, making up the larger portion of the Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie borough. It begins at Papineau Avenue to the west, and ends at Pie-IX to the east where Nouveau Rosemont begins. North to south, the area fits in between Rue Bélanger and follows the train tracks down to Rue Sherbrooke.

You'll come across lots of students who live close to public transport spots along Masson and Papineau, while elsewhere along the side streets there are mostly families and long-time residents. There's no shortage of parks in this neighbourhood and you'll also be within walking distance of the Olympic Park and Montreal's Botanical Gardens. There are also plenty of schools, a few medical centres and lots of old churches which make for great photo opportunities.
Rosemont is fairly accessible by public transportation. While there are no metro stations in the neighbourhood, there are plenty within walking distance, and numerous major bus routes along the main roads. You can also get to the highways by car along Pie-IX, Sherbrooke or Papineau avenues.
Much of Rosemont is absolutely gorgeous, but some of the streets closer to the Olympic Stadium are a little behind on the gentrification. There's also frequent roadwork in the area, especially along Sherbrooke which can lead to traffic nightmares. Also, the train tracks to the west can make getting out of the area tricky in certain places.
Rosemont gives you lots of choices for groceries, hardware and dining out. If you find yourself renting an apartment, you might be better of near Masson simply because everything you will ever need can be found along that road. Elsewhere, there are plenty of corner stores.
