Albert Park

Regina

Introduction

Located in Regina's vibrant south end, Albert Park is bordered by 25 Avenue to the north, the Trans-Canada Highway to the south, bustling Albert Street to the east, and the Lewvan Drive expressway to the west. Home to a mix of convenient commercial amenities, attractive parks, single-family homes, and rental properties, Albert Park offers a little something for everyone.

Lifestyle

Albert Park appeals to a wide range of residents. Shops and services along Albert Street and in the neighbourhood's two malls make life easier while the skating rink, athletic fields, and spray pad of Realtors Park make life more fun. Entertain the kids at Golden Mile Bowling Lanes, enjoy drinks with friends at Bonzzini's Brew Pub, or volunteer at the Albert Park Community Association. This vibrant community always delivers.

The Vibe

The established Albert Park neighbourhood is Regina's second-largest in terms of population and third largest in terms of size. The community combines quiet cul-de-sacs filled with detached homes, an abundance of affordable apartments in the Parliament Place area, and many convenient shops and services – particularly along the eastern border of Albert Street. A safe community with plentiful parks and schools, Albert Park is home to many young families.

Meet the Neighbours

As Regina's second-most populated neighbourhood, Albert Park's residents numbered 12,525 in the 2011 Statistics Canada census. This area is popular with young families as well as seniors, and while all ages are represented, the median age of 44 skews slightly higher than neighbouring communities such as Whitmore Park (37). Home to an educated populace, 32 percent of residents hold university degrees and another 28 percent hold post-secondary certificates or diplomas.

In the Area

Albert Park contains a wealth of shopping, dining, and recreational opportunities. Albert Street is chock-a-block with popular restaurants like Earls and coffee shops that range from the convenient (Tim Hortons) to the charming (Magpies Kitchen). Residents can enjoy the spacious Southland Mall or more intimate Golden Mile Shopping Centre, both of which feature movie theatres. Three elementary schools, a library, community centre, parks, and more help this neighbourhood shine.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

While the majority of Albert Park residents rely on their own vehicles to get around, 425 residents identified public transit as their primary form of transportation in the 2011 census. The area boasts frequent bus service to the commercial areas on Albert Street, Southland Mall, and the Grasslands and Regina International Airport is less than a 10-minute drive or 40-minute bus ride away, depending on traffic.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

As Albert Park's population grows, existing facilities will need updating to better serve the neighbourhood's changing demographics. The City of Regina and Albert Park Community Association have anticipated this need with a concept plan to enhance Realtors Park and the surrounding area. Improvements include a multi-seasonal path around the park's perimeter, improved landscaping and seating, new multi-use green space – not to mention a cricket, basketball, and outdoor fitness space.

Dollars & Sense

According to Statistics Canada, the average pre-tax household income in Albert Park was $87,318 in 2010. However, the highly-populated area's wide range of incomes was reflected in its substantially lower median pre-tax income of $62,192. Just as income levels vary, so do the range of commercial amenities residents have access to. Everything from fast food to fine dining and the second-run Rainbow Cinemas to Cineplex Southland's state-of-the-art Real 3D theatres.
