Located in an older area of Winnipeg, but featuring relatively new homes, Rivergrove offers modern living in a mature park-like setting. The neighbourhood is bordered to the north by the boundary between Winnipeg and the Rural Municipality of West St. Paul. To the west is Main Street, to the east the Red River, and the southern border lies just north of the Chief Peguis Trail.
Taking advantage of its riverfront location, Rivergrove's picturesque pathway system brings residents through McBeth Park and beyond. Those who prefer golfing to strolling can choose between the entertaining Shooters Family Golf Centre to the north or the challenging Kildonan Park Golf Course to the south. A quiet residential community, Rivergrove enjoys access to shops and services along its Main Street border, and downtown Winnipeg is just a 20-minute drive away.
At $92,204, the average household income of Rivergrove residents is well above the Winnipeg average of $63,023 (2006 census). More than a third of the households in this well-to-do neighbourhood earn in excess of $100,000 per year, and home prices are roughly $100,000 higher than the Winnipeg average. When it comes to spending their money, however, residents enjoy proximity to affordable fast food dining, grocery stores, and coffee shops.
An attractive area with parks, well kept homes, and river views, Rivergrove is a desirable place to live. Unfortunately for renters, however, there are very few rental opportunities; only 10 properties were identified as rentals in the 2006 census. While residents are educated and varied in terms of age here, the neighbourhood does not reflect much ethnic diversity, with only 10 of its 1,095 inhabitants belonging to a visible minority.
Rivergrove residents depend on their vehicles, with only 2.7 per cent of the population claiming public transit as their primary form of transport in the 2006 census. Those 2.7 per cent have access to 16 bus stops in the neighbourhood, serviced by Winnipeg Transit routes 18 and 32. Commuters can expect a 15-20-minute drive to downtown and travellers have a 30-minute drive out to the airport (80 minutes by bus).
With fitness stations, a play structure, and pathway system, McBeth Park is a big part of Rivergrove's charm. Before heading over, get your picnic supplies at Rivergrove Shopping Centre, where you'll find a Sobeys and fast food options. South of the shopping centre is Rivertree Landing, a smaller plaza with services that include a veterinarian and chiropractor. The nearby Red River Community Centre brings residents together for fun and fitness.
An affluent and educated community, 37.9 per cent of Rivergrove residents held a university degree, diploma, or certificate as of the 2006 census. More than 65 per cent of residents are legally married and the majority of families have children still living at home. Although 42.3 per cent of the population speak Ukrainian and 28.2 percent speak either German or Polish, visible minorities are 0.9 per cent of the population.
In Rivergrove, the charm and character of one of the city's older residential areas combines with well kept, newer homes to create a comfortable and highly desirable neighbourhood. A family-oriented community with attractive river paths, mature trees, and access to a range of commercial properties along Main Street, Rivergrove makes the most of its quiet and convenient location.
Rivergrove residents can enjoy the nearby Red River Community Centre's facilities. Sports programs here include hockey, soccer, baseball, and basketball and there's a well designed skateboard park on site. Facility rentals and volunteer opportunities available.
