The Junction

Toronto

Introduction

The Junction was once known as a railway town and gets its moniker from its proximity to four intersecting railway lines. It’s hard to believe this now-bustling west-end hub was under alcohol prohibition along its main street Dundas St. West until 2000. Once the ban was lifted, the community went through a major gentrification and has become a sought-after hood for many young professionals.

Lifestyle

The Junction is a hip and happening hood that has a nice community feel. You will quickly grow attached to its distinctive indie vibe, which transpires into the area's super cool specialty shops covering everything from food, clothing and decor. With so much to offer, the Junction has quickly become a hot bed for arts and innovation.

Dollars & Sense

This area has gone through a modern renaissance, and subsequently has become an in-demand place to live. With its main street a breeding ground for cool shops, restaurants and cafes, plus its proximity to downtown and other cool neighbourhoods, you can see why prices have shot up over the years. A common complaint is bottleneck traffic, partly due to the trains that still run through the area.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

Some of Toronto’s finest architecture and structures can be found along the leafy streets of The Junction, such as Victorian-style and Queen Anne-style houses with beautiful details and generous lots. This area is also made up of a mixed bag of housing options, from detached, semi-detached and rowhouses to lowrise apartments.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Although a little farther west than Toronto's other up and coming neighbourhoods, the Junction is well connected to subway lines via bus service along Dupont, Dundas and Keele streets, as well as on Symington and Lansdowne Avenues. Drivers can be downtown in as quick as 10 minutes by way of either Bloor or Dundas.

In the Area

Because this area is still up and coming, most will find that the average house prices in The Junction are considerably cheaper than a lot of real estate in Toronto. With prices still reasonable and the area booming, it makes sense to invest now while the market is still affordable.

Meet the Neighbours

The Junction neighbourhood boasts a cross section of people. With rents not as high as other trendy neighbourhoods in Toronto, the area is more attractive to the young crowd as it's entertainment is affordable and there's a vibrant nightlife. Families, meanwhile, like the area for its parks and good schools.

The Vibe

People are flocking in droves to this cool area for its vintage furniture stores, microbreweries and amazing food scene. You just have to visit the buzzing Junction Flea Market (held the second Sunday of each month) to get a sense of what this community is all about – urban, friendly and dynamic.
