Bloor West Village

Toronto

Introduction

Located along Bloor Street from Jane Street on the west to Runnymede to the east, Bloor West Village is an older, well-established yet lively neighbourhood populated mostly by English-speaking families with higher incomes – and a notable Ukranian community. It's a favourite west end locale for shopping and dining, with quality, older homes on the subway line.

Lifestyle

Being so close to High Park, many neighbourhood residents enjoy an active, outdoor lifestyle on the go, and Bloor West Village has the sports shops and fitness options to serve them. Everyday shopping is an enjoyable stroll along Bloor Street, where you'll find several fresh fruit and vegetable stands, coffee shops, banks, restaurants, pubs and just about anything else you could want.

Dollars & Sense

Primo location right on the subway line makes getting around a breeze, and bodes well for property values. Popularity of the area, and its proximity to High Park, means traffic is sometimes a headache – particularly as condo construction ramps up at Jane Street and further east at High Park.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

From restos such as Queen’s Pasta and Sunset Grill, to pubs such as The Kennedy Public House and Bryden’s, to the plethora of spas and boutiques, Bloor West has no shortage of leisure options. For those who love to jog, cycle or just enjoy nature, High Park is a stone’s throw away. Need some java? You'll find a Timothy’s, Second Cup, Tim Hortons and not one but two Starbucks.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

With three subways stops situated in the ‘hood – Jane, Runnymede and High Park – you can be downtown, or west to Kipling, in no time. For those who prefer to drive, the Queensway and the QEW are minutes away, and Bloor Street is always another option for pedestrian or cycling inclined individuals.

In the Area

Not the cheapest of neighbourhoods to buy in, but prevalence of single-family homes, proximity to the subway and High Park well…has its price. And as of July 2013, that price is about $765,000 and only rising. Still, living in this area affords residents and renters a like a lot of unique perks.

Meet the Neighbours

About 60 per cent are working age – 25 to 64 – many of them two-children families. Ukranian heritage is celebrated at the Ukranian Festival every September. Most housing is single-family homes, many built in the 1950s and 60s, followed by semi-detached as you move north from Bloor toward Dundas Street West. Note to renters: apartments are limited, so head east towards High Park for several mid- and highrises.

The Vibe

Although Bloor West is considered to be a bit of an older, more well-established neighbourhood, it's still quite lively with lots of shopping and entertainment available to residents and visitors. This unique community is populated mostly by English-speaking families with higher incomes – upwards of $100,000. There is a notable Ukranian community.
