The Bridle Path is bordered on the south and east by parkland; Windfields Park, Edwards Gardens, and Wilket Creek Park in the east, and Sunnybrook Park in the south. Bayview Avenue marks the western edge of the area, and The Bridle Path its northern edge. The Bridle Path is the wealthiest and most expensive neighbourhood in Toronto.
One of the most affluent areas in Canada, the Bridle Path is a quiet neighbourhood of large houses on large properties. The streets tend to be wide, a legacy of the network of equestrian bridle paths that were originally planned to be a part of the area. There are no shops or theatres, but it’s easy to get from the Bridle Path to other parts of the city.
The Bridle Path is a quiet and peaceful neighbourhood. The properties are large and houses tend to be set well back from the road, often behind a fence or hedge, providing plenty of privacy. Basketball courts, pools and large gardens can be found on many properties. This is a beautiful area to walk through but pedestrians are few and far between as residents mostly drive.
The Bridle Path is a young neighbourhood, with 32 per cent of residents being 24 years old or under and only 17 per cent of residents being over 65. Most households are couples and most couples have children. The residents of the Bridle Path tend to be well-educated and high-earning, with 89 per cent of residents having a post-secondary education and 57 per cent of households earning over $125,000 or higher after tax.
What the Bridle Path lacks in shopping it makes up for in green space. Sunnybrook Park and Edwards Gardens both lie partially within the Bridle Path and both are wonderful places to go on a sunny afternoon. The Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre lies near the southern edge of the neighbourhood and the private Crescent School and the York University Glendon Campus lie along its western boundary.
There are several bus routes in the area, including along Bayview and Leslie as well as through the neighbourhood on The Bridle Path, and Park Lane Circle. Bayview provides a fast route for going north or south in the city. Parking is allowed on side streets and there are multiple parking lots in Sunnybrook Park.
The Bridle Path has gorgeous houses sitting on large, beautiful, and well-maintained properties. However, there is almost nothing to do in the area. There are no stores or shopping, there are no theatres, and there are no real restaurants; the only places to eat are in Sunnybrook Park and Edwards Gardens, both of which have limited hours. For almost any kind of activity you have to leave the neighbourhood.
This is one of the most expensive neighbourhoods in Toronto and property prices are sky-high. Rental prices are also high, well above the average for Toronto. Membership to the nearby Granite Club is expensive and tuition fees to private schools in the area are also quite high.
Open year-round, Edwards Gardens has 17 beautiful themed gardens, including an herb garden and teaching garden. There is a cafe on-site, and they run garden tours, educational programs and a gardening help line.
