NEIGHBOURHOOD

Seaton Village

Toronto

Introduction

This idyllic community often stands in the shadow of its more well-known neighbour to the east – The Annex. While Seaton Village has the same charm, this smaller and cosier enclave boasts a strong community feel. This neighbourhood lies south of the train tracks north of Dupont, west of Bathurst, north of Bloor and east of Christie.

Lifestyle

This community is friendly and laid-back, full of residents who appreciate spending time with their loved ones. The Karma Co-op, an organic and fair trade cooperative, lends an alternative feel to the neighbourhood. In between old Victorian homes, new renovations are popping up adding modern facades to the community. The Seaton Village Residents Association hosts regular events such as park clean-ups and meetings to discuss safety and other municipal issues.

Meet the Neighbours

The quiet streets and recreational amenities of Seaton Village have attracted a number of young families. Professional couples and urbanites working throughout the city also appreciate the ease of transit access to downtown. While renters and young homeowners are common, there are still plenty of long-term residents here. The University of Toronto is nearby, but few students rent in this neighbourhood due to the higher cost.

In the Area

Seaton Village is small but packs a punch. The Palmerston Avenue Junior Public School and Community Daycare are located here. The St. Alban’s Boys and Girls Club’s Main Clubhouse offers subsidized programs for young children. Adults will appreciate a variety of 24/7 gyms located along Dupont. Vermont Square Park is undoubtedly the recreational hub of Seaton Village, boasting a playground, dog park, bocce court, wading pool and indoor skating rink.

Parking within Seaton Village isn’t difficult but getting elsewhere in the city by car can be a challenge, especially during rush hour. Cycling to and from Seaton Village is easy and a preferred mode of transport for many residents.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

Housing prices in Seaton Village are high. Home renovations are common, and this can drive prices up further. Renting in Seaton Village can also be pricey, but many residents are grateful for the peaceful surrounds and easy transit access, and are willing to pay a premium to live here. For drivers, it can be a challenge accessing other parts of the city from Seaton Village.

Dollars & Sense

This neighbourhood is attractive for many reasons – great housing, central location, good amenities and a warm community feel. For this reason, Seaton Village can be an expensive neighbourhood to live in. There are a few cheap eats in this area but pricier and higher quality independent outlets are favoured. Grocery offerings – Loblaws and the Karma Co-Op, again cater to a higher income bracket that appreciate quality organic produce and products.
