The Vibe
It’s a close-knit community that hosts lots of outdoor events throughout the year. As one of the greenest neighbourhoods in Vancouver, it boasts eight parks, including Balaclava and Musqueam Parks, as well as several riding stables. The area is also known for its well-groomed and beautiful golf courses. In addition, residents here love that it’s close to the downtown core.

At one time, Dunbar was dominated primarily by the white wealthy elite. Today, it’s still largely white, but over the last few decades other ethnicities have been lured by what this distinctive community offers. Today, Dunbar’s European heritage (96 per cent), and about 19 per cent list their ethnic origin as Chinese.
In the Area
This tony postal code is home to some of the city’s top echelon private schools – Crofton House and St. George’s; education is highly valued among residents of the area. Dunbar is also famous for its incredible and numerous public parks – residents are quick to tell you that it boasts the Pacific Spirit Regional Park, which comprises 763 acres of forest, wildlife, walking/running and biking trails.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles
Although Dunbar is not located near any SkyTrain routes, its cross town buses connect to all three SkyTrain lines, making Richmond, Vancouver East, Burnaby and New Westminster easily accessible. For cyclists and walkers, there are plenty of reasons why you want to toss the car keys, most notably the access to the Spirit Trail Greenway, which runs north-south along Camosun Street.
The Good, the Bad & the Rest
Beautiful historic homes, stunning views, luxurious and expensive shops and restaurants, as well as a selection of intimate and great ethnic eateries: I’m having a hard time finding fault with this neighbourhood – except that it makes Dunbar far too pricey for many. As fitness buffs, many Dunbar residents’ lives revolve around its recreational spaces and activities. In fact, Dunbar Little League is one of the most active kids' baseball and T-Ball leagues in the City of Vancouver.
Dollars & Sense
Well, put it this way …. With an average price tag of $1.7 million for a single, detached home, it’s fair to say Dunbar has the distinction of being amongst one of the city’s most expensive postal codes to live in. To help out with their hefty mortgage payments, many homeowners rent out their basement suites to UBC students. On the upside, in recent years, several low-rise condominium and apartment buildings have gone up along Dunbar Street.
