Wild Rose

Edmonton

Introduction

The far-flowing Mill Creek is the south border of this newer Edmonton community. Currently, Mill Creek features 17 Street to the east, 34 Street to the west and 38 Avenue to the north. This southeastern community is among the newest in Edmonton with most residences in the area are younger than 15 years.

Lifestyle

The natural beauty of Mill Creek was retained during development, lending a beautiful escape into nature when the mood strikes. Before development, the northern portion of Wild Rose was agricultural land and some of that has been preserved with small lakes at the northwest and northeast corners. Within this youthful community you would be hard-pressed to find many residents over the age of 50.

Dollars & Sense

You’d have to travel outside of Wild Rose to enjoy a café or restaurant, but the trip wouldn't take long. 38 Avenue will take you to popular and inexpensive corporate cafes and bars. And the professional services within Wild Rose, like a deep-cleaning business or computer repair, are competitive with larger businesses elsewhere. Rental accommodations are rare in this community.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

Wild Rose's commercial space is underdeveloped, to say the least, so residents rely on nearby shopping centres. The Edmonton Police Station Crime Map shows an increase in crime since 2013, but the area is still considered relatively safe. For all the green space available, there are still large electric towers through utility corridors that detract from the skyline in places.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Wild Rose features an Edmonton Transit station to the northeast, with multiple routes running through the community. However, transit outside of peak hours is infrequent. Many walking paths and sidewalks can be found, while long utilities corridors provide some green space to quickly wander through. Both the Anthony Henday and Whitemud Drives are nearby for easy access to the rest of Edmonton.

In the Area

Father Michael Troy Junior High is the lone school here and it's operated by the Edmonton Catholic School Board. Parks are abundant throughout Wild Rose, with man-made lakes in every corner of the community. Well-tended walking paths lead through Mill Creek or any one of the green spaces. Athletic fields are in each park while the school grounds have plenty of room for recreation.

Meet the Neighbours

As a young neighbourhood with many beautiful older trees, you can expect to find only one in five residences over 50 years old. Not many businesses are located within Wild Rose but there are nearby business parks that provide necessary services. Home-based businesses and professional services are more common than traditional brick-and-mortar storefronts.
