With construction having begun in 2004, Willow Grove is finally starting to look as beautiful as promised. The parks are wonderfully landscaped, the homes are elegant, the schools are welcoming and the centre square is beginning to see some commercial development. Willow Grove, located on Saskatoon’s east side, is bordered in the west by Arbor Creek and Erindale, while all other borders face undeveloped land.
Development in this neighbourhood is finally slowing down and showing signs of completion. Now that it's beginning to feel calm and relaxed, Willow Grove's sense of community is growing. This area is perfect for wealthier families and couples who intend to settle down and raise a family. While it is on the outskirts of the city, being near University Heights means that residents have access to many restaurants and shops.
Willow Grove is one of the most expensive communities in the city. Homes are mostly large detached houses with the exception of some multiple-unit dwellings. The nearby University Heights features a range of available shops with a wide variety of prices, although the restaurants tend to lean towards the more expensive side.
This is a fantastic neighbourhood and it is difficult to find flaws here. Ongoing construction and development here is nearly completed, but some yards and areas are still unfinished. This will likely improve quite quickly, however. The brand new elementary schools are a positive asset for the neighbourhood and the central square is also something residents really enjoy.
Since this neighbourhood is located at the outskirts of town, owning your own vehicle will make life a lot easier. However, the many nearby commercial developments mean that walking is an easy way to get around. Buses run through Willow Grove and this is generally the preferred way for students to get to the university. The neighbourhood's walking paths are fantastic, offering residents plenty of opportunities for staying active.
Pink Cadillacs Malt Shop and Diner is the local favourite here. This retro-themed diner offers a variety of classic diner dishes and delicious milkshakes. The nearby shopping centre, University Heights, offers a wide range of restaurants – from fast food to lounges, pizza shops and steakhouses. You can also do your grocery shopping here at either Safeway or Co-op. Local elementary schools include Holy Family and Willow Grove School.
As of 2011, English speakers make up about 80 per cent of Willow Grove’s population. The average age here is 25 to 35 years old, and there are many young children as well. The area is exceptionally family-friendly and the residents here take full advantage of this by using all of the parks, playgrounds and the centre square.
With ten parks, a beautiful centre square and brand new elementary schools, Willow Grove feels like a well-planned community with a lot to offer. Pink Cadillacs Malt Shop and Diner has a classic vibe and is a great place for shakes and burgers, adding a unique touch to the neighbourhood that helps this suburban area feel a little more lively.
Located just across McOrmand Drive, this restaurant offers a comfortable lounge and delicious food. Residents frequently come for dinner and often find themselves enjoying the drinks and atmosphere until late into the evening.
