Wellington Crescent

Winnipeg

Introduction

Wellington Crescent swerves slowly along the river from Assiniboine Park in the west to Osborne Street in the east. Well known for its many mansions, Wellington connects a pivotal corner of the Maryland Street Bridge to a picturesque, park-like setting in the city of Winnipeg.

Lifestyle

Life on Wellington Crescent is for professionals with six figures and lots of disposable income. Those who aspire to that goal find themselves touring the scenic street. Fronted by historic homes or late modern architecture, most residents guard their privacy while many enjoy the common grounds nearby. Wellington is wealthy and neatly groomed. It hosts exclusive dining, private schools and large organizations fitted for those who aim high. Its beauty also extends to Assiniboine Park, gracefully curving through lush green trees.

The Vibe

The feeling here is pretty open to the public while still maintaining a remote privacy for its wealthier residents with homes set further back on palatial grounds hugging the river banks. Frequented by the health conscious, work crews and sports cars, it is traveled by commuter traffic as well as by people on foo

Meet the Neighbours

Neighbours on Wellington will often be older, affluent and not very diverse. With many car garages or indoor parkades, there are fewer opportunities to approach them directly. Groundskeepers and management maintain services for homeowners though condo owners may share amenities and live in closer proximity. Life is somewhat elite especially on Wellington West river front where single family homes dominate the terrain and separate people with large lots.

In the Area

This neighbourhood is for an exclusively above average budget. There is limited choice and elevated price for selective service. Wellington appeals to the affluent only.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

As a scenic route right off a main transportation hub, Wellington Crescent lines the Assiniboine River like the trim on a Gingerbread house. Sundays, it remains closed to vehicles so that cyclists can cruise down the Crescent. It is close to the airport, downtown and nearby neighbourhoods. Most drive, but it’s also a runner’s paradise.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

Misericordia hospital is immediately adjacent to Wellington Crescent at Maryland Street. The nearest schools are St. Mary’s Academy and Kelvin High School. Several elementary schools can be found going south and the Asper Jewish Community Campus is on the west end. There are also two large parks, one hosting the city zoo plus two Community Centres nearby.

Dollars & Sense

Wellington is loved by the rich and by those who enjoy the attractive outdoor trails lining the river or the road. Some enjoy the route by car because it’s a scenic side street. Most would admire the stature of the homes although some might find it distracting because it caters to the rich and famous.
