The vibe of this neighbourhood is a busy pace in the hub – right at Yonge and Eglinton – but the side streets are quiet and tranquil, with large, old trees and well-kept homes boasting well manicured lawns. It's a cool part of town, definitely attracting active and outdoorsy residents.

Sometimes referred to as Yonge and Eligible, the neighbourhood definitely has an element of young single professionals out to enjoy their community. There’s a wide range of pubs, lounges and shopping to meet that demand. There are also a lot of older, active adults on the move, with a lot of upscale and posh residences in the area. Affluence is definitely notable in this hood.

In the Area

While there are still some deals and budget dining, the area is known for its upscale shopping and five-star restos. If you're going to live here, be prepared for lots of traffic, bustle and noise--both of the car kind and pedestrian. It's been rated very highly as a walking friendly area.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Yonge and Eglinton is right on the Yonge subway line and the station is a really busy one. The area is well served by public transit for those who don't have a car. Mount Pleasant and Avenue Road are also great access routes to the city when Yonge Street is too busy.

The Good, the Bad & the Rest

The area has a large shopping centre and business complex at Yonge and Eglinton. The library as well as several schools – both public and private – are in the area, including the prestigious Havergal College for girls and Upper Canada College for boys. Eglinton Park is massive, with everything from tennis and baseball diamonds to a playground and winter ice skating.

Dollars & Sense

Yonge and Eglinton offers it all, but it can be a bear to navigate at rush hour. With one way streets and no turns, the area is best traveled without a car – though it's a neighbourhood that is easy to walk and navigate by foot or bike. Thanks to the subway, a car isn't a necessity here.

It has a "neighbourhood-contained-in-a-building" feel. There are a few brands, food outlets and all the essentials – the bank, grocery, pharmacy, LCBO – all under one roof, with a movie theatre and a massive bookstore.
