A life of leisure found in Southwest Calgary

Under the bright blue prairie skies of southern Alberta, amid the pealing laughter of children trying out purportedly the tallest slide in Calgary, life just seems as sweet as it can be. That was the scene this past summer when the long-awaited Radio Park opened in Southwest Calgary, just another reminder why this is the most sought-after residential sector in the city.

Located just off Old Banff Coach Rd, SW, Radio Park is an 8.5 acre “urban living room” at the heart of West Springs in Calgary’s southwest, it’s far more than just a playground and its benefits are far ranging.

“When it opened, it attracted such a crowd that we enjoyed some of our highest traffic at the showhome,” says Adam Zymirski, Area Manager at Trico Homes’ West83 luxury townhomes and the new Wentworth master-planned community development. “It’s a great extra amenity for the whole community to enjoy.”

New communities of the southwest

The southwest has always been the most sought-after residential quadrant in Calgary. It is replete with family-friendly communities; a rich milieu of cultural, entertainment and recreational amenities; and a scenic, natural beauty with loads of parks to get lost in.

And with the completion of the Stoney Trail/ Tsuut’ina Trail ring road, it opens a lot more opportunities to live in.

There are three distinct nodes of growth in this new southwest. One is centred in the more established areas west of downtown, including Encore in West Grove Estates by Bri-mor Developments, and the new Wentworth, a master-planned community from Trico Homes.

Then there are the areas closer to Spruce Grove like Alpine Park by Dream, and Vermilion Hill by Qualico Communities, and Silver Spruce by Apex.

Finally, there are those on the southern part of the southwest where even more frenetic activity can be seen. There’s the whole Pine Creek area development west of Macleod Trail that includes communities likeBelmont, Sirocco at Pine Creek, Hudson at Pine Creek, Yorkville, and the newer Creekview and Silverton.

All of them are threaded by the more than 100-kilometre Stoney Trail freeway that now provides easy accessibility to even the furthest communities from the downtown.

The heart of the southwest

The southwest has always been where everyone wanted to buy a home to settle down. It was one of the earliest residential areas to be developed in the city, so it’s an established, amenity-rich area with all the benefits of urban living as well as plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature’s beauty.

Some of Calgary’s most beloved parks are within this sector – Sandy Beach, Weaselhead Flats, the Glenmore Reservoir and the parks surrounding it, Edworthy Park with Douglas Fir Trail running through it are just a few of the most popular recreational destinations in the southwest.

Communities in the southwest are also that much closer to the Rockies, so a mountain getaway is much easier.

“Some of the best public and private schools in Calgary are also found in the area,” Zymirski says, “like West Ridge School, West Springs, Ernest Manning, Rundle college, Waldorf, Calgary French and international school.”

The West Springs neighbourhood where West83 is located is particularly fantastic with many established amenities and more coming soon. There are trendy new restaurants, boutique shops and services opening along Broadcast Avenue seemingly every week. There is a brand-new Sobey’s now open two blocks from West83, Townhomes and the more than eight-acre Radio Park quickly becoming the heart of the community.

West83 townhomes

West83 has been a big hit for Trico Homes, as the first phases with 75 townhomes are all but sold out, a stellar feat considering that it only launched just a little over a year ago. Sales are as robust for its final phase. But that’s not such a surprise considering that buyers are raving of its elegant, luxurious design crafted by renowned designer Ali Velji and prime location in a quiet, amenity-rich, and upscale neighbourhood.

“Our vision for West83 sets a new standard on the west end: it’s an effortlessly cool, timeless style that will ensure sophistication and livability for years to come,” Zymirski says.

Location is a big part of West83’s appeal, as it is in the heart of West Springs, dubbed Calgary’s Trendiest New Neighbourhood, with the very best shops, dining, fitness studios, schools, and services.

Nestled on rolling hills above downtown Calgary, West83 fits in nicely, as West Springs is already home to a prestigious collection of upscale residences and urban amenities. It is just a few blocks from the newly opened Radio Park.

Wentworth

Trico Homes’ Wentworth is the final opportunity to buy a new home in this well-established corner of the southwest.

Renowned for its warmth, architectural character, and natural beauty, Wentworth is perched on a forested hilltop in Calgary’s west end, just 15 minutes from downtown just off Stoney Trail and Bow Trail. Trico is the exclusive builder in Wentworth, adding flavour to this southwest enclave as one of the most attractive neighbourhoods here.

Zymirski, says there’s no other community quite like it in Calgary. “Wentworth is a thoughtfully designed, inclusive community that welcomes every life stage and age,” he says. Trico is the premier builder offering Executive Bungalow Villas in the Willows of Wentworth (coming soon), the now-sold-out semi-estate homes, and soon-to-be-released signature estate homes.

In addition to these beautifully crafted residences, the community will feature new condo apartments, residential rentals, and a planned seniors’ retirement community ensuring diverse living options for all. Plus, with convenient amenities just steps away, including numerous new proposed commercial sites, everyday life is effortlessly enjoyable.

There is a lot of excitement for Trico’s Executive Bungalow Collection in Willows of Wentworth, featuring stately lots ranging from 39- to 52-feet wide with spacious open concept layouts, and double-car garages. There are two models – the Birch and the Ironwood – offering 1- or 2-bedroom options, each with a main floor den and elevated interiors.

Tricos’ Summit Condos in Wentworth is also generating plenty of buzz with its planned launch in mid March 2026. It is a modern six-storey condo community and the first multi-family offering in this master-planned neighbourhood. Featuring thoughtfully designed one-, one + den, two-, and two + den homes, with 10 floorplans to choose from, The Summit offers flexible living options to suit your lifestyle. Prices start from the low $300s, for one-beds and mid $400s for the two beds. It is an amenity-rich, pet-friendly building with a fitness studio and its own community gathering spaces.

This Summit is designed for modern comfort and everyday convenience, with the sixth floor suites offering 12-foot ceilings for an added sense of space and light with gorgeous mountain views. Perfectly positioned among the best of west Calgary, residents will be steps from shopping, dining, and everyday essentials, with downtown just 15 minutes away by C-Train or car.
