A playful twist on conventional nursery decor

This fun, happy and vibrant nursery was designed for a very special couple expecting a little baby girl. Like most nurseries usually are, this was the smallest room in the house. The challenge was to divert the eye to focus on everything else except its size! The primary goal to accomplish, however, was to give the room a completely different look and feel. The parents wanted the room to feel bright, fresh and happy!

When we think of nurseries we usually visualize the stereotypical light blue for boys, baby pink for girls and soft yellows or greens for unknown genders. In this case, we decided to break the mold and add as much punch and contrast as possible while still keeping it soft, sweet and perfectly suited for a baby girl.

The client loved corals, so we started with variations of that colour as our foundation and used sea foams as a beautiful complementary secondary colour.

There were many tricks we used that helped us bring a lot of pizazz to this beautiful room. Custom-made bedding allowed us to have fun with the fabric selection of the bumper pad in a dark rich coral that was complemented by a deeper teal and damask coral pattern on the skirt.

In order to soften up the boldness of the crib’s bedding, we opted to go much softer on the drapes. A light orange honeycomb pattern was used in full-length drapes with a small added touch of sea foam coloured silk inserts at the bottom of each panel.

A gorgeous sea foam coloured chair with voluptuous curves and shiny studding detail around the back really anchors the room.

A variety of sweet little details such as crystals in the lampshade, silver on the accent table, coral mirrored and silver picture frames and flowers all contribute in making the room feel elegant and very feminine.

This small space got a real treat when it comes to bells and whistles!

A water colour style vertical stripe wallpaper really ties in all the colours of the room together to make it whimsical and fun.

The beautiful wainscoting all around the room truly gives a rich and classy element in the room.

The sum of so many exquisite little details made a tremendous difference in creating this special space for our client and played an important role in giving the room the happy, cheerful, bright and inviting feeling we wanted to give our client.

It’s okay to stretch out of the conventional comfort zone and allow yourself to explore
endless possibilities.
