There is a new energy coursing through Edmonton’s southeast. New prospects, new opportunities, new growth and new homebuyers who see plenty of options to find an affordable, comfortable lifestyle in the new communities coming up in this quadrant.

Affordable and multifaceted homeowning opportunities abound, as Southeast Edmonton remains one of the most desirable localities in Alberta. It is centrally positioned, offering relatively easy and quick access to several other areas like Central Edmonton and Sherwood Park. In addition, the area provides everything a growing family needs locally, ranging from schools and shopping to leisure and medical care.

Southeast Edmonton is also close to the Edmonton International Airport, which is great for frequent travellers and for those working at this major employment hub. Transit routes have also improved to provide residents with swift access to many of Edmonton’s sub-areas, as well as easy access in and out of the city.

New excitement

Cantiro is a big reason for this dynamic growth of Southeast Edmonton. It’s award-winning Hills at Charlesworth has played a major role in bringing a new sense of comfortable, convenient modern urban living to this growing area, and it promises to up the excitement even more with its latest community of Alces.

With Hills of Charlesworth already in its final phases, Cantiro is now deep into its follow-up development: Alces, which held its grand opening just on September 21.

It was a - fun-filled, family-friendly event that introduced all that Alces has to offer.

Alces (pronounce al-sis) is the Latin word for “moose” – a Canadian symbol of strength, pride and grace. The community itself is inspired by nature and is created for connections. Alces is a community crafted around the distinctive lifestyle it offers, featuring a gazebo, community picnic tables, park spaces, a bike track, and scenic walking paths.

It is also within minutes of shopping, restaurants, and recreational amenities—the perfect community whether one is looking for a first home or a forever home.

“Southeast Edmonton offers a blend of natural beauty and urban convenience. Alces is uniquely positioned in this vibrant area, providing residents with a connected lifestyle surrounded by parks, trails, and everyday essentials,” says Elise Shillington, Cantiro’s Development Manager, Communities.

“Residents can expect a balanced lifestyle with access to natural green spaces, modern amenities, and community-oriented living. Alces is designed for families, professionals, and those who appreciate both tranquility and convenience,” she adds.

Activities abound

Southeast Edmonton is a mix of residential, industrial, and rural areas, plus recreational green spaces such as Mill Creek Ravine, whose leafy trails are popular for biking and jogging. It’s also home to large shopping complexes like South Edmonton Common, a spacious open-air mall with big-brand stores, a cinema, and fast-food. There’s a scattering of hip breweries that have taprooms serving beer flights and snacks.

Amidst this amenity-rich area Alces is offering an idyllic, recreation-centred lifestyle.

“Alces offers shared-use paths and natural exploration areas, seamlessly blending outdoor living with modern comfort,” Shillington says. “Residents can enjoy amenities like a pump track, basketball courts, scenic walking trails, naturalized wetlands and community park spaces—providing the perfect mix of relaxation and recreation.”

A place to set roots in

There will also be a wide variety of home styles in Alces, including front drive and rear lane single-family homes, three-storey single family homes, duplexes, and townhomes – in short, every home type for ever type of budget.

“Our builder group consisting of Akash, Bedrock, Cantiro and San Rufo Homes are committed to delivering quality craftsmanship tailored to diverse lifestyle,” Shillington says.

Cantiro Homes will have three front drive garage showhomes, while Bedrock Homes and San Rufo Homes will have one each. Akash Homes and San Rufo Homes will showcase their duplex models, and rear-drive single-family models will have showhomes from Cantiro Homes, Akash Homes and Bedrock Homes. New to the area is Cantiro’s three-storey single-family home designed to streamline the demands of family life while fostering special moments together. Cantiro will also have townhomes.

The new southeast

In these days when the rest of the country is looking to Alberta for affordable housing opportunities – especially in Edmonton – this sector of the capital region is certainly drawing its fair share of interest.

The southeast is generally the area south of Whitemud Drive and east of Highway 2, but much of the new growth can be found straddling Anthony Henday Drive. And this includes Alces, which is just off 17th ST and Ellerslie Rd. SW.

Communities that promote a healthy life-work balance is the norm in these new areas, with commercial, retail and recreational spots found in abundance and residents don’t have to go far to find what they want and need.

Alces, in particular, is surrounded by fantastic amenities, including basketball courts and greenspaces within the community.

“It’s just three minutes away from the 138-acre Ivor Dent Sports Park, offering soccer, cricket, and more. Residents are also close to The Hills at Charlesworth 9-hole championship disc golf course and a 10-minute drive from The Meadows Community Recreation Centre, a 234,419-square-foot facility with year-round indoor and outdoor activities. Plus, there are numerous golf courses within a 20-minute drive,” Shillington says.

There’s a heady mix of dining establishments nearby Alces, too, ranging from the exotic – like Mezbaan Indian bistro, and Chatkaz Dosa that specializes in south Indian cusine – to the all-time favourites like 2-for-1 Pizza House and DoughMo Mochi Donuts.

Alces is also mere minutes from Harvest Hills Market with lifestyle services, shopping, grocery, restaurants, and more. New retail is also now open at 34 Street and Alces Drive. It is also close to the Royal Centre Hills Retail Plaza, a 22,000 sq ft retail centre featuring pharmacy, restaurants, and personal services. And it is just 10 minutes to Beaumont with all its unique shopping, award-winning restaurants and more.
