The Manitoba Home Builders’ Association is always pleased to partner with Home Décor and Renovations magazine to feature the entrants in its annual RenoMark Renovation Awards. On the following pages, readers will be able to see pictures and descriptions of the projects that have been entered in this year’s showcase. Entries are featured in six different categories – Additions, Kitchens, Bathrooms, Whole House, Outdoor Structures and Basement. As one can see from the entrants appearing in this magazine, each project is spectacular.

We are featuring 69 different projects by 17 outstanding MHBA RenoMark renovators; renovators who follow the highest professional standards in Canada. These projects will undoubtedly provide you with the direction you need to better pursue your renovation or, at the very least, start you thinking about what you could be doing to upgrade your home.

This issue of Home Décor and Renovations is always very popular because readers see what has been done in other houses and then develop ideas of what could be sin their home.

These are real projects completed by professional renovators in homes in nearby neighbourhoods.

Over the past weeks, all of us have been spending much more time in our homes. This leads to thinking about changes we could or should make around the house. Everybody has something that they have been longing to improve in their kitchen. Bathrooms are being updated and modernized for comfort and practicality on a regular basis. Many of us love our neighbourhood and love our house, but we also need change. Colours and styles from 10 years ago just don‘t cut it today. Traffic flow is encumbered by a bevy of walls and rooms. It’s time to open things up. There’s a reason no one goes down into the basement. Cooking is a chore in a room that stifles creativity and innovation. An addition is like creating a whole new living space; a whole new lifestyle for your family without the hassles associated with moving. These award-nominated renovation projects can provide a great example of what you can do to make your own home more functional and livable.

If you’re considering a renovation, look to the standards and practices of a professional RenoMark renovator. The Code of Ethics and tips on what to look for when hiring a renovator can be found at the web site renomark.ca. The Manitoba Home Builders’ Association website is home to great tips, videos and a full listing of our renovator members by visiting.homebuilders.mb.ca and clicking the “Renovating your home?” button.

Insist on the quality, professionalism and knowledge that come with a RenoMark renovator; your assurance of quality. Enjoy looking at all of the entrants in this year‘s RenoMark Renovators Awards and, of course, all of the articles featured in the magazine. Your next renovation project could be inspired by what you’ll see on the following pages.

Custom Design Build Group

The customers purchased this house as their starter home. They thought that they would only be there a few years and then move on to something bigger. Fourteen years later, they are still there and realize they love the house, neighbours and neighbourhood and didn’t want to move. Now with two children, the issue was they needed more space in the kitchen and living area. By adding onto the front of the house, we could give them a larger dining/living area and revamp the kitchen to work better in the existing footprint. We were able to make their wish happen.

Macanta Design Build Inc.

This 1953 bungalow, nestled in the Riverview neighbourhood in Winnipeg, is in the perfect location but was too small. A home addition was added, which perfectly complements the home’s architectural style and which nearly doubled the livable space. The addition houses a second bedroom and separate den, mudroom, as well as the kitchen with full custom cabinets, stone countertops, island with breakfast bar, and separate dining area. The home addition was designed inside and out to match perfectly with the existing structure; it’s impossible to tell where the old home stops and the new space begins!

Macanta Design Build Inc.

This gorgeous two-story, located on a pie-shaped lot in Starbuck, Manitoba, is home to a growing family. They needed more space and decided to extend their second storey over the garage to add three additional bedrooms and some flex space. A catwalk joins this second-floor addition to the existing space, which now includes a fourth bedroom, bathroom, and a gorgeous master suite with a large walk-in closet and ensuite. New cement board siding was installed onto the entire home for a low-maintenance exterior.

This basement in Windsor Park is one of a kind. The customer wanted us to build them a 50’s diner-themed basement combined with some 20th century electronics. Since the 50’s was a little before our time, we had to do some extensive research to understand the look the homeowner was striving for. The customer had all of his ideas in his head and knew exactly what he wanted. We just had to make those ideas a reality.

KAT Reno

The client wanted a usable entertainment area in their basement and additional storage. They wanted a new bathroom and a nice laundry area. The old basement was small, cold, dark, and uninviting. We were able to provide a warm and cozy entertainment area with a built-in electric fireplace and TV feature wall. We incorporated a table and chairs for meals or games while entertaining. The combined bathroom/laundry area was bright, inviting and functional. We custom designed cabinetry to incorporate necessary storage, allowing laundry items to be hidden from guests. We doubled the usable living space in the home.

Maric Homes

This basement development was a design challenge but with the work of Maric Renovations and our clients, we did it! Our clients wanted a timeless look that worked in unison with the main floor. We incorporated clean lines, contemporary finishes, and neutral colour palettes. This renovation is a cozy lower level where our clients can entertain company. Features such as: maple cabinetry, maple hearth, stone entertainment unit, storage and quartz countertops; barn doors open into a gym with two closets; down the hallway, a bedroom, laundry room and bathroom. This contemporary rejuvenation is finished with luxurious materials and warm finishes.

Maric Homes

This lower level design intent from the onset was clear: create an entertainment space for a young growing family with enough seating for guests. Using this principle, we sought to incorporate natural elements, modern finishes, plenty of seating and maximize circulation efficiency. The aesthetic of the renovation is urban modern, with custom black cabinetry and shiplap, open wood shelving and sleek white countertops. Gold hardware, floor-to-ceiling storage and classic light fixtures create a comforting space for our clients. This urban modern is finished with razor-sharp details, luxurious materials, and crisp finishes.

Rempel Builders

From toys to hobbies, office supplies, laundry, and mechanical, no need was overlooked in this stunning, well-thought-out basement development. And for each, a very intentional solution was provided. And while functionality was key, design was certainly not overlooked. From custom two-toned kitchenette cabinets, quartz countertops, and tiled backsplash, to the custom tiled shower, continuous grain vanity, and vinyl plank flooring throughout, all the boxes got checked! And of course, a large screen TV and media area ensured that the space was well equipped to meet the challenge of entertaining both adult guests, and grandkids alike!

All Canadian Renovations Ltd.

This bathroom was in desperate need of an update! The bathroom was completely gutted, new plumbing lines were run, all electrical was upgraded, and new moisture resistant drywall installed. A new acrylic tub and surround was installed, along with new plumbing fixtures. A custom vanity was built and a stunning quartz countertop installed. A new undermount sink and faucet were included. A custom side medicine chest was added to replace the old, dated unit. A custom glass mirror, new tile floor, new exhaust fan, updated lighting and fresh paint completed this stunning bathroom!

All Canadian Renovations Ltd.

This project involved a basement bathroom that had been neglected since the 1970’s. The only thing that was relatively new was the shower unit. We gutted the entire space and upgraded all plumbing and electrical (all required permits pulled). All of the rotting walls and mould were removed and the entire bathroom was disinfected. New moisture-resistant drywall was installed, along with new sheet vinyl flooring. A new, modern European style (space saving) vanity with faucet, and a new high-efficiency toilet were also installed. New lighting and accessories were also added. A fresh new paint job completed this project!

Dash Builders

The client’s dated ensuite with a small alcove shower and a large unused jetted tub was not meeting their needs. Their dream was to have a large shower. The new focal point of the bathroom was an impressive 9-ft. x4-ft. open-concept tile shower. It included a large bench, two shower stations, and a 24-inch ceiling rainfall feature. New luxury vinyl plank flooring in both the bath and attached closet replaced the old flooring. Dimmable LED recessed lighting was added throughout the ceiling. A custom-built vanity with an under mount sink and quartz top completes this luxurious master ensuite.

Dash Builders

After purchasing this home, the customer realized the master ensuite had many deficiencies that were covered up. We started by totally demolishing the existing ensuite. A full tile shower with bench and a custom glass door was installed. A large dark toned vanity capped with a light colour quartz countertop was added. New dimmable LED lighting illuminated the space. The tricolour luxury vinyl tile flooring brought the look together. The transformation to a bright open ensuite delighted the homeowners.

Dash Builders

You will surely agree that this unique south St. Vital bathroom is an eye-catcher. The customer really wanted a free-standing tub, but unfortunately it would not fit into their existing bathroom. We found a way to make the tub fit. Additional features were added. The customer loved their new spa-like bathroom and could not thank us enough for creating exactly what they wanted.

De Vries Construction & Renovation

This outdated 1950’s-style bathroom was in desperate need of some TLC. The renovation included a full reconfiguration of the space with all new plumbing and electrical. The old-fashioned tub was replaced with a beautiful oversized six-foot walk-in shower featuring floor-to-ceiling white subway tile and a black two-inch hexagon tile base for eye-catching contrast. New LED fixtures were installed to brighten up this small space, allowing the sleek black matte shower and sink fixtures to complete this stunning transformation.

Dynasty Bathrooms

This charming River Heights home carried its character throughout, even into the bathroom with its cathedral style ceiling and wood trim features around the window and cabinet. Our objective was to highlight these features, expand the size of the bathing area and brighten the room. To allow a large soaker tub, we had to open the wall, remove a chimney stack and build the space to match the 1920’s structure. Bright white subway tiles within the shower continue throughout the room. A custom wall-hung vanity in high-gloss white and light coloured walls welcomes the natural light and opens the room.

Dynasty Bathrooms

Stylish and spacious were the key elements for the main bathroom in this client’s home. Opening up a closet to accommodate a large seamless walk-in shower and removing a dark and dated jetted bathtub for a deep soaking freestanding model brightened the room and gave it a spa-like open feel. Modern matte black bathroom fixtures pair nicely with the wood accents of the vanity and storage tower while also providing a contrasting focal point against white components, especially the large format marble tiles that line the shower and continue throughout the bathroom.

Grindstone Renovations Ltd.

The original space was doing double duty as a bathroom and laundry room and just wasn’t working for a busy family of four. Our clients wanted to reclaim the bathroom space by relocating the laundry to another room. The remaining space was reconfigured to be both functional and beautiful. The toilet was moved so that it was not within the direct sightline of the door and was shielded by a wall, which also acts to contain the alcove tub. Removing the washer and dryer allowed for a large double vanity and full height storage for fresh linens and other necessities.

Hammerdown Home Renovations

This bathroom renovation was completed for a repeat client of ours. We took this space back to the studs and installed all new fixtures and finishes, including a new vanity and medicine cabinet, luxury vinyl tile flooring, large format and mosaic tiles in the shower, undermount sink and countertop, and brushed nickel accessories throughout.

Hammerdown Home Renovations

This home had a bathroom from the 1980’s that needed updating to accommodate both a modern design and homeowners looking to age-in-place. We completely gutted, re-wired and re-finished the space. We raised the ceiling to make the space feel bigger, added grab bars for future use, and a full shower complete with custom-made quartz bench and niche. The vanity and medicine cabinet were custom made here in Winnipeg and featured unique door hardware to finish the custom look. Design by Lisa Duxbury, Glenat Duxbury Design.

Hammerdown Home Renovations

This client came to us wanting to embark on their very first renovation ever. Improved function and aging-in-place were focuses within this renovation so we added blocking behind the shower walls for current and future grab bars, fully upgraded the exhaust system, and allowed for other future improvements. The interior design was centered around the cabinetry colour and style and included dark quartz countertops, chrome finishes, modern vertically stacked tiles, luxury vinyl plank floors, and a dramatic olive-green wall colour. Our client was thrilled with the outcome and very pleased with the overall renovation process.

Hammerdown Home Renovations

The former bathroom was small and lacked the luxurious feel that the clients were looking for. We enlarged the bedroom space and used two of the existing bathrooms to create a split master bathroom for the homeowners. One of the bathrooms became a two-piece powder room complete with bold teal wallpaper and tile, and the other bathroom became a neutral space with a large Neolith shower, vanity, soaker tub, and a modern fireplace. The soaker tub by the large new window and the linear fireplace are the pièce de résistance of this relaxing new space.

Hammerdown Home Renovations

This bathroom was created for a young boy with mobility issues. His previous bedroom and bathroom wasn’t equipped to handle his unique needs so our team created a large, accessible bedroom space. We converted a section of the house with winding hallways into one large space complete with vanity and zero entry shower to help him as he grows older. Our team added personality to the space by including diamond-shaped tile and a navy and gold vanity space and installed a track system from his bed to the shower.

Hammerdown Home Renovations

This client was referred to us through one of her neighbours down the street who we had previously worked with on their bathroom renovations. She was inspired by some of the previous work she had seen on our website. After working one-on-one with our interior designer our team gutted the space and fixed the water damaged areas. The shower was outfitted with two different types of Carrara marble mosaic. The champagne bronze faucet, shower system, and accessories complimented the marble, dark tiled floors, walnut vanity, white fixtures, and blue accent wall to give our client a sophisticated bathroom.

This bathroom from the 1980’s needed updating to accommodate both a modern design and homeowners looking to age-in-place. We completely gutted, re-wired and re-finished the space. We raised the ceiling, upgraded the exhaust system, and added grey tiles and mosaic uniting the bathtub/shower combination with the toilet and vanity. The vanity and medicine cabinet were custom made here in Winnipeg and featured unique door hardware to finish the custom look. Design by Lisa Duxbury, Glenat Duxbury Design.

Hammerdown Home Renovations

This homeowner came to us with a very clear vision of a black and white bathroom. She specified that she wanted all black fixtures and accessories paired with a walnut vanity, and white toilet and sink. This bathroom was on the main floor of the home, was used primarily for guests, and geared towards minimalism. The floating vanity was constructed to include two drawers instead of the typical double doors. Our team also fully upgraded the exhaust system and re-installed a window and more light to the space to add to the perception of more space.

Harwood Design Builders Ltd.

For a master ensuite this one is on the small side by today’s standards, but the conversion of a small bedroom to create this transitional ensuite was exactly what the client dreamed of. Modern shaker style cabinets painted foggy grey, high contrast black fixtures combined with a bold pattern tile floor and Victorian style mirrors create a unique and beautiful transitional style space. The clever and unique design and construction of the walk-in shower in a sloped ceiling area is brilliant and comes complete with a rainfall shower head and built in niche.

Harwood Design Builders Ltd.

How do you create a luxury spa-like ensuite? Start with a stunning custom floating vanity with two sinks and multi level mirrors. Add a private water closet, a huge walk-in closet, and double sized shower with floor to ceiling glass, two rainfall shower heads, steam unit, built in bench, slatted floor drainage and plenty of niche storage areas. The final touches, in-floor heating, a luxurious stand alone soaker-tub and stunning light fixtures all designed with the finest materials and finishes... and VOILA, your luxury spahh ensuite awaits!

KAT Reno

The client wanted to update their main bathroom with a spa like feel and a contemporary look. They wanted a walk-in shower and added storage space along with a hidden laundry chute to the lower level. They required a new venting system. We installed a new custom tiled shower, and custom vanity. The base of the linen tower hid the laundry chute to the lower level. A bulkhead with pot lights above the vanity hid the venting for new fan. The toilet was relocated to allow for a larger vanity with more storage. The finished project exceeded their expectations.

Maric Homes

For this renovation, we wanted to create an oasis to escape after a long day. We incorporated natural elements, lavish finishes and subtle details to bring our clients a feeling of luxury. This modern industrial renovation features black hexagon floor tiles, subway tiled shower, floor to ceiling glass shower walls, gold fixtures with free standing tub and open shelving. Gold hardware, wood elements and classic light fixtures create a comforting space for our clients. With every detail meticulously planned, our client’s new restroom suited their needs and design dreams. This rejuvenation is finished with razor-sharp details and luxurious materials.

All Canadian Renovations Ltd.

This entire kitchen design was coordinated by the clients - right down the very last fine detail! The clients knew exactly what they wanted - and did we ever deliver! A full gut of the existing kitchen with all new plumbing and electrical upgrades was where we started. Custom cabinets in a cappuccino colour along with new vinyl tile flooring accented the awesome quartz countertop. The tile backsplash was laid out piece by piece as per the client’s design and vision. A new stainless steel appliance package, along with new LED pot-lights and fresh paint really brightened up this amazing kitchen project!

All Canadian Renovations Ltd.

This home - custom built by the current owners back in 1985, was in immaculate, but dated condition. The kitchen was gutted, all plumbing and electrical were upgraded. The new kitchen had custom cabinets, quartz countertops, LED pot-lighting, and a stunning new backsplash. The renovation continued throughout the remainder of the home as well - all interior doors were changed to new, with all new hardware, all baseboards, casings, and trims were also replaced with new, modern materials. The main bathroom and ensuite were upgraded with new custom vanities and quartz countertops, and the front entrance received new millwork as well!

All Canadian Renovations Ltd.

We had sold this client a kitchen renovation, and shortly after signing up, the customer had an unfortunate plumbing leak from the second floor that totally destroyed their old kitchen! The restoration team came in and completely gutted the old kitchen and cleaned up the water damage. What you see in the photos are after the damage was cleaned up, and the wonderful results of a brand new kitchen! White shaker style cabinets, new quartz countertops, stacked stone tile backsplash, vinyl tile flooring, LED pot-lights throughout, fresh paint, and a stainless steel appliance package finished off this gorgeous kitchen!

All Canadian Renovations Ltd.

This kitchen project involved removal of two load bearing walls to open up the front area of the home. Plumbing, electrical, venting, drywall, and insulation were all upgraded, and we added new LED pot-lights in the ceiling to brighten things up. The client chose two tone cabinets - white shaker style for the majority of the kitchen, and a sharp looking grey coloured island. Vinyl tile flooring was installed in the kitchen and extended to the front door entrance. Quartz countertops and a stunning glass backsplash tile finished off this gorgeous, open concept kitchen!

Character Homes Ltd.

This 2003 walk out basement show home was showing its age and needed a refresh. Tweaking the layout and removing the walls to create a better use of space and flow between the new kitchen, dining, and living room. New pot lights and cove moulding to the ceilings gave it some well needed light and detail. New engineered hardwood floors, cabinets, quartz countertops, patio door, and fireplace for a complete makeover. Special attention was given to the hand-crafted steel range hood and matching barn doors.

Dash Builders

The customer’s 60s era home was in need of a full reconfiguration to accommodate a modern flow for closer family and entertainment experiences. A modern white and grey colour scheme was requested by the owner. Opening up the kitchen and dining/living room areas by removing a wall completely captured the look the owner wanted.

De Vries Construction & Renovation

This custom kitchen remodel was all about maintaining and highlighting the unique character and layout of this beautiful 100 year old home. The kitchen features custom cabinetry, a new gas range and hood vent and a bold retro-inspired tile backsplash which the client’s loved. The original oak wood flooring was able to be maintained throughout the space while custom benches were built to create a bright, cozy sitting area adding function and making the entire space feel welcoming.

De Vries Construction & Renovation

Our clients wanted a clean and classic design for their kitchen remodel in this 1950’s bungalow. New structural work with the addition of a beam allowed us to open up the space to make it more functional and inviting. Beautiful maple hardwood floors were installed throughout the space with a custom stain color match on the stair railing. Quartz countertops and glass front cabinets with accent lighting were the perfect finishing touch to this crisp, bright kitchen.

Grindstone Renovations Ltd.

The focus of this renovation was the original eat-in kitchen of a 1970’s home which had mix of styles from many different eras. To stay within the client’s budget the project was divided into phases. Starting with the kitchen, found at the heart of the main floor, meant that the design would require a clear direction for future updates while not looking totally out of place until then. The end result is a functional kitchen done in the transitional style with nods to the mid-century.

Grindstone Renovations Ltd.

After having had a very bad experience with another contractor we felt very lucky that these wonderful clients put their trust in us. We took our roll and their trust very seriously, listening to their needs and making sure they felt comfortable and informed throughout the process. Their vision was transitional meets industrial. This was accomplished by using custom shaker cabinets along with more industrial touches such as large enameled pendants, pipe shelf brackets and industrial handles on the main and prep faucets.

Hammerdown Home Renovations

This client requested an update to their 1980s kitchen while maintaining the character of the home. Our team preserved the original wood floors and added all new cabinetry, tile, countertops, lighting, and paint, effectively updating the space to match the rest of the house’s newer aesthetic. This space was adjacent to the family room where we refaced the fireplace, painted the space to match the new kitchen, and removed the stipple ceiling throughout.

Hammerdown Home Renovations

The former kitchen was very dark and closed off by walls. We removed the walls to maximize the natural light. We eliminated one window, enlarged the other to maximize the layout, cabinetry, and wall space to create a large open concept kitchen with adjoining dining room. The cabinetry was all custom made for this space and included white cabinets on the perimeter and a dark stained island with elevated live-edge waterfall piece. We tiled to the ceiling and hung pendants over the sink. The adjoining dining room bench was built into the back of the kitchen cabinetry.

Harwood Design Builders Ltd.

This kitchen makeover, described by the homeowner as, ‘their dream come true,’ was designed to be the ultimate gathering space. The huge T-shaped peninsular island is the focal point and was strategically constructed for big family functions where guests are free to mingle or sit in the kitchen, with overflow spilling into the open living and dining areas. As the party rages on guests congregate around the east side of the island making it easy for cooking and food prep to continue smoothly on the west side where the refrigerator, sink and range create an efficient work triangle.

Harwood Design Builders Ltd.

The cabinets are central to this stunning kitchen design and provide a striking contrast of bright white and inky blue finishes on durable maple wood. Unconventional but gorgeous walnut counter tops with a clear finish and rich hardwood flooring add natural colours that brings this kitchen design together. Now, add a perfect work triangle, convenient wine storage, a recycling centre and other helpful cabinet features, plus dazzling sunlight streaming through new windows and you have the perfect combination of function and beauty. What more could you want in a kitchen!

Harwood Design Builders Ltd.

The kitchen in this 1930’s character home went from dated and compartmentalized to sleek and sophisticated with some strategic design decisions. The removal of a wall increased the footprint allowing for the addition of a 7-foot island and a full wall of cabinets increasing both counter and storage space six-fold. Colours and materials were carefully selected for a modern makeover while at the same time maintaining the heritage feel. Soft close cabinets painted Foggy Gray were flanked with a trendy off-white geometric tile backsplash and topped with White Attica Caesarstone counters for the perfect finish.

KAT Reno

Our client wanted an open concept living, dining and kitchen with an island. A wall needed to be removed between the living room and the kitchen and dining area to create the open concept. The challenge was working around the staircase in the center of the space which did not allow for a free standing island. However, our design team was able to create the illusion of an island using the staircase as the island with seating at one end. The built-in bar/desk/storage in the dining area made a functional entertainment space leading to the adjoining screen room.

Make It Home Ltd.

Our client goals was to update the kitchen layout to something more functional. The client found the dated upper cabinets to be oppressive and cut off the space in adjacent areas. During our first meeting we discussed installing a larger window to incorporate the wonderful views and wildlife in the back yard. We discussed changing the layout to include an island, a coffee station, and a serving counter for beverages. We also talked about the collection of small appliances and how they needed dedicated storage. We collaborated over several review meetings and produced a plan that ticked all the boxes!

Make It Home Ltd.

Our client goal was to modernize the kitchen. The client found the dated cabinets to be dark and oppressive. They wanted to be mindful of their budget as the rest of the house also needed updates. We chose to remove the non-load bearing wall to open up the space to the dining area. This in turn created much more light from the south facing windows. We updated the layout to include a slide-in stove, counter depth fridge and decorative range hood. We incorporated pull-outs for easy storage and added tall storage adjacent to the dining area for pantry items.

Rempel Builders

Our goal was to take full advantage of open concept design! By removing all kitchen walls and re-configuring the layout, we could make room for an oversized island, and create a great open space to cook and entertain in! Removing the old fireplace allowed us to install new oversized patio doors, maximizing the site lines of the incredible back yard! Contrasting 2 tone cabinets, quartz counters, and new stainless appliances, all help create a space that is not only functional, but stunningly beautiful as well! The unique marble backsplash is the crowning jewel, and really helps tie it all together!

Summer is here. Time to get out and enjoy the weather. No better way to do this than in your backyard on your new deck. Beautiful brown treated durable wood decking will give years enjoyment. Glass railings provide a clear view into the yard from the deck and house. Being a few feet off the ground allowed for skirting and an access door under the deck, giving ample storage for the homeowner. The wide pyramid style stairs offer direction and flow into different areas of the yard while providing a simple rectangular deck with style and its own unique personality.

Custom Design Build Group

A basement walkout house gave this deck a lot of options. The deck, built 12 feet off the ground, offers an incredible view of the lake behind the house. A wood railing and square spindles provide a feeling of privacy from the public walking path without obstructing the view. Additional decorative privacy screens on the side facing the neighbour provide privacy even with the neighbours out on their deck. Views, privacy and solid construction add a functional extension to the living space of this home.

Our client had a year round sunroom that had been added to the home that was cold, drafty and not usable in winter. They wanted to convert the old wood burning fireplace to electric and update the fireplace. The built-in entertainment center was replaced with custom cherry cabinetry to match the rest of the home. The TV was centered on the fireplace for easy viewing. The entertainment wall and crawl space were insulated with spray foam which made a huge difference. The updated sunroom was functional and cozy all winter long and became a favorite room year round!

Rempel Builders

Our summers are short and our mosquitoes are abundant, so our objective was to create a space that was able to address both of these issues. The solution was a stunning, 3 season sunroom, with attached deck and outdoor BBQ area. On the inside, the warm traditional feel of whitewashed pine, the rugged durability of vinyl plank flooring, and the seamless functionality of the Weather Wall window system made sure that this space stood out from the pack. On the outside, stylish composite decking and pre-finished aluminum railings made sure that all of the boxes had been checked!

The details continue throughout the house, decorative ceiling details, porcelain slab countertops and fireplace finishes. The transformation of this 4,500 square foot four-level split 1960s home was our fourth project with this client and was a very positive experience. Our team transformed the house from function-specific rooms to open concept, re-introduced natural wood elements, and stripped the entire house back to the exterior framing, completely re-wiring, re-insulating, and re-structuring the entire home. We utilized Manitoba businesses as much as possible, with all of the millwork custom made to fit each space perfectly. The exterior received a facelift, including all new siding, windows, roof, detached garage, and a reconfiguration of the front entry.

Harwood Design Builders Ltd.

This home renovation is the ultimate transformation of a 1960’s compartmentalized house into a custom designed beauty with all the bells and whistles. Structurally the floor plan was overhauled; converting the garage into an office and gym; moving the kitchen from the back of the home; and modifying the second floor to include two bedrooms with ensuites. Unique features abound with a huge, unconventional T-shaped island, a custom architecturally unique staircase, inviting modern entry, radiant in-floor heating, ensuite with free standing soaker-tub, oversize shower with two rainfall shower heads, plus all the luxury materials and finishes you could imagine.

Jenkyns Construction Ltd.

This lakefront home underwent a 1750 SF renovation/addition. Through the design process everything was considered from exterior – in. The beauty and attention to detail is immediately noticed upon driving up to a brand new deck and exterior with high end finishes. Inside, an open concept floor plan was achieved through eliminating five tele-posts during construction and laminate flooring and T&G pine finishes were installed throughout. The dwelling features a custom kitchen and cozy wood-burning fireplace with cultured stone surround. Cabin fever? No problem. Grab your coffee and step out onto the new lakeside deck and take in the incredible views!

Macanta Design Build Inc.

This 1946 home in Kingston Crescent was remodeled throughout, including structural alterations, a new kitchen, renovated bedrooms with custom wainscoting, updated bathrooms, and a full energy efficient basement development. The client provided 100 year old reclaimed wood from their family cabin that had sentimental value, which was incorporated into the main floor existing hardwoods prior to refinishing. Cost effectiveness was important however not at the expense of a high-end custom look. Prefabricated cabinets and millwork were just some of the value-engineering steps taken to reduce overall costs.

Macanta Design Build Inc.

This 1980 Richmond West home in Winnipeg was built new by the client. Now retired, with their family grown and moved out, they wanted to refresh and transform the home into an aesthetically pleasing, accessible, and functional space. Custom cabinets and stone counter tops were installed throughout the kitchen and dining room bar area. A real-wood butcher block countertop was installed in the kitchen at the breakfast bar. The living room and entry foyer boast custom cabinetry as well. A mix of hardwood and LVT flooring was installed, as well as a counter-to-ceiling tile back splash.

Nestled in the Riverview neighbourhood in Winnipeg, this 1953 bungalow was transformed into a forever home utilizing aging-in-place design concepts. A home addition was added which perfectly compliments the home’s architectural style. The living room boasts a wood-burning fireplace and custom maple mantle. Custom cabinetry and stone countertops exist throughout the kitchen and bathrooms. The kitchen includes full-wall tile, an island with breakfast bar, and a gas range. Black doors throughout give a modern feel without diminishing from the home’s overall character. The exterior is low-maintenance and the back yard includes a hot tub and natural-gas BBQ.

Our client’s goals were to update the entire house! This client had bought the former show home in 1987. Everything was dated and in need of replacement. This newly retired homeowner wanted the space to reflect today’s styling. We removed everything including a dividing wall between kitchen and dining area. We upgraded 2 bathrooms, kitchen, lighting, flooring, doors and trim, railings! We created a new laundry on the main floor. We installed a patio door where there was a window and a window where there was a door. The new fireplace feature wall creates the focal point from every corner!

The design intent from the onset was clear: keep the home’s prairie aesthetic and maintain the established setting of the home within the context of the neighborhood. Using these principles as the framework for the project, we then sought to incorporate light, modern finishes and increase circulation efficiency. The central aesthetic of the renovation is mid-century modern, keeping in theme with the home’s original design period. Wood panels throughout the main floor and classic light fixtures harken to a previous time in our city. All are made boldly modern here with razor-sharp details, luxurious materials, and crisp finishes.

These homeowners had been living with the original design of their Linden Woods home since moving in. The classic 80’s oak ran throughout the house, begging for an update. Opening up the wall between the kitchen and living room and adding LED lights created much needed light. Darkening the wood railings and ceiling beams created a contemporary feel that paired with the new LVP hardwood look flooring, dark shaker style cabinets, white quarts countertops, and white subway backsplash, beautifully. The result, a previously dark and closed space turned into a warm, welcoming, friendly atmosphere for the homeowners.

A couple of Tuxedo empty nesters finally wanted to give their large, beautiful home not only a much-desired facelift, but also a substantial space change more suited to their current lifestyle. No inch of this space was left untouched. An updated, more open plan included a new kitchen, LVP flooring, lighting, windows, and high-end mouldings and trim work. His and her private offices and striking custom millwork installed throughout finished the space and the clients couldn’t be happier with their bright, contemporary “new” home!

Our objective was to reconfigure the existing living space and provide a much needed update to an aging home. By eliminating both kitchen walls, and installing new shaker cabinets, gorgeous quartz counter tops, and new stainless appliances, we were able to create a space that was not only open and functional, but eye catching as well! The new media wall includes custom built ins, plank style ceramic tile, and a modern linear fireplace, creating the perfect focal point for the new open concept. A full bathroom remodel, and Hickory hardwoods throughout, were the perfect finishing touch to this stunning renovation!

Our client purchased her childhood home from her parents. She always loved the location, backing onto a golf course. This late 90’s home was a perfect candidate for a makeover. The home was built extremely well and worth the investment in renovations. Interior designer Lyndsay Stokes, the homeowner, and our team worked out the “Grand vision” to bring this home up to date. A generous budget allowed the use of beautiful finishes and amazing products.
