The walking paths of the Edmonton river valley are in the full blush of spring, and the hiking trails along the Wolf Willow Ravine in West Edmonton offers some of the best spots to enjoy spectacular views and opportunities to reconnect with nature.

That’s exactly what new residents in this part of Edmonton are finding out, many choosing to build their new homes here where they have easy access to the river and its many trails. But its accessibility too for all the needs of a balanced lifestyle is very much in evidence.

“West Edmonton offers a great balance of convenience, connectivity, and community,” says Tara Van Horn, Director of Marketing and Communications at Coventry Homes. “With quick access to major roadways, shopping, recreation, schools, and greenspaces, it is an ideal area for families, professionals, and those relocating to Edmonton.”

Coventry Homes builds in two of West Edmonton’s most dynamic communities, Rosemont and West Secord, and Van Horn says buyers love the work-life balance that these communities offer.

“Buyers are drawn to the west end for its established amenities while still enjoying the feel of newer, growing communities,” she says.

Winning in the west

The West Edmonton area, generally west of the North Saskatchewan River and south of Stony Plain Road, has become a haven for residential development, and one of the most diverse in the city. Its wealth of amenities, including the world-famous West Edmonton Mall, makes it popular among tourists and locals alike.

“We really like the west side of Edmonton. It’s close to the river, there’s access to bike trails and there’s a ravine. We’re in the city but we’re out of the city as well,” says Alexander R. who moved here with his wife, Mellisa, last year.

New communities like West Secord and Rosemont bring a jolt of energy to the sector, with a fresh offering of a varied, and desirable range of new home opportunities. Coventry Homes and Impact Homes are among the new home builders in those two young communities, and they see something special in them.

“Both West Secord and Rosemont continue to see strong interest from buyers looking for thoughtfully planned communities that offer new homes in West Edmonton,” Van Horn says.

Coventry Homes has showhomes in Rosemont and West Secord showcasing its flexible approach to homebuilding. “The communities continue to grow with construction on major projects such as the Lewis Farms Recreation Centre well underway. Access to walking trails, greenspaces, nearby amenities, and convenient connectivity throughout the west end.”

Amenity-rich area

West Edmonton has plenty to offer, with Whitemud Drive going right through the heart of it, accessibility is never a problem. There are tons of things to see and do nearby, and the list of restaurants and diners and coffee shops is as diverse as the communities themselves.

What many may not realize is that West Edmonton also has a rare closeness to nature with the meandering North Saskatchewan River flowing past. The new communities that have sprung up along West Edmonton all tout this abundance of greenery, including West Secord and Rosemont, both developed by NAC.

“These communities offer a mix of convenience, affordability, and a connection to nature. You’ll find everything from nearby shopping and schools to walking trails and parks. It’s ideal for families, professionals, and first-time homebuyers who want the perfect blend of city living with a touch of the outdoors,” she adds.

West Secord and Secord Heights are home to the brand-new Route 919. This replaces the previous Route 315 and offers more direct bussing, more often. A full loop of Secord is included in Route 919, which then leaves the neighbourhood and connects directly to the Lewis Farms Transit Centre.

Various new home opportunities

In West Edmonton, Coventry Homes and its sister company,Impact Homes, offer a wide range of home styles, including single-family homes and townhomes.

“We are seeing a mix of first-time home buyers, young families, and up-sizers choose West Edmonton communities,” Van Horn says. “Buyers are drawn to the area for its accessibility, family-friendly amenities, and homes that offer flexibility for evolving lifestyles, including spaces for home offices, multi-generational living, and growing families.”

Coventry Homes, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary of building homes in Edmonton this year, is intent on growing with West Edmonton and have opened new showhomes, including the Lyra in West Secord and the Kepler in Rosemont.

The front-drive-garage Lyra offers 2,282 square-feet with a “California Contemporary” design. The large foyer opens to the central kitchen and dining room with the bright and spacious great room occupying the back of the home. The bonus room sits at the top of the stairs of the second floor with the primary suite located privately at the front of the home. A large laundry room, main bath with dual vanity and two additional bedrooms complete the second floor.

While in Rosemont, Impact has the Vasa with a “Soft Industrial” design. The home features a Revenue Suite in the basement with separate side entrance. The Vasa is a laned home which has a standard size of 1,626-square-feet. The kitchen is set at the back of the home, with a comfortable island off the back foyer. Upstairs, the second floor showcases a front primary bedroom with walk-in closet and four-piece ensuite, as well as two additional bedrooms, a full bathroom, and future laundry area.

Coventry also has the Kepler in Rosemont featuring a “Modern Eclectic” design. “This house is home to our new Oilers Fan Cave, so there has been a lot of excitement around it,” she adds.

Also new in West Secord is Coventry Homes Mila townhome which features a double garage, three-bedroom layout, and an open concept main floor. Van Horn says it’s a fantastic opportunity for first-time homebuyers who can apply for the new GST rebate program.
