Excitement grows in Greystone
December 08, 2023
New energy is coursing through the young community of Greystone in Cochrane with the opening of its first showhomes, and as it welcomes its first residents.
Greystone opened laned and front-drive garage showhomes during its grand opening celebrations in the fall, and now buyers are already enjoying living in this dynamic, young community on the banks of the Bow River.
“The opening of our first set of showhomes in the community of Greystone marks a significant milestone for all the partners, and the developer Burnswest Properties, in drawing future residents in to view all the progress and construction throughout the community to date including all the infrastructure, roads and sidewalks, parks and playgrounds, etc.” says Josh Hagen, Vice-President of Development for Burnswest Properties.
A convenient location
Greystone brings an elevated, modern, family-friendly living in the heart of Cochrane. By taking advantage of its one-of-a-kind location at the bend of the Bow River on the southeast side of Cochrane just outside of its downtown, Greystone offers a fresh new take on the town’s already established countryside living charm.
“Our location and vibrant mix of uses makes Greystone the ideal live, work play community,” Hagen tells Calgary New Home + Condo Guide. “We are situated immediately next to downtown Cochrane, wrapped around the south and east by the Bow River and its river pathway system. Greystone is also connected directly with the existing 325,000 square foot Spray Lakes Family Sports Centre which is home to a variety of sporting opportunities and events.”
The homes themselves are reflective of Cochrane’s rich history and growth, he adds. “The homes celebrate the nature surrounding them, and green spaces abound, while stunning floorplans and luxurious finishes include every modern convenience. Likewise, the central setting offers access to new and existing shops and stores, healthcare, and wellness services, and so much more.”
The Greystone Discovery Centre at the gate of the community is also now open to serve as a one-stop shop for information on everything the community has to offer. And there is a lot it offers.
New showhomes
First and foremost are the new showhomes. Open to view are front-attached garage showhomes by Prominent Homes and Green Cedar Homes, as well as two rear-laned single family showhomes by Douglas Homes and Rohit Communities. “There are also duplex homes available from both Douglas Homes and Rohit Communities,” Hagen says.
Feedback has been very positive since, says Prominent Homes President, Pal Shergill. “Ever since unveiling the showhome, we’ve witnessed a surge in community interest. A growing number of individuals are now acquainted with our community and its various locations,” he says.
“Furthermore, we’re thrilled to announce that the first few families have now settled into the homes along the front drive, eagerly embracing the opportunity to explore and enjoy the fantastic amenities our community offers, including parks and walking paths.”
“We’ve had amazing feedback since opening our showhomes here,” says Stuart Wen, Senior Marketing Coordinator at Rohit. “People have patiently waited for Greystone and have fallen in love with the connectivity that this community has to offer. And they have been quick to purchase in this beautiful new neighbourhood as it has quick access to the river parks and nearby commercial amenities and the SLS Family Sports Centre.”
More developments
Ocgrow Group, which is developing some of Greystone’s multi-family and commercial retail areas, is also happy over the public’s ecstatic reception of the community. Their Vertos project will bring 150 luxury townhomes and garden level condos to Greystone, and they are enjoying strong sales, with already 50 percent sold.
Ocrgow is also developing a 50,000 square-foot professional centre in Greystone that is aimed to attract more tech-based companies, but will also have health, dental, childcare and relaxation clinics.
“Ocgrow decided to build here because of the wonderful lifestyle Cochrane offers already and the huge growth potential here at Greystone and all amenities offered within walking distance,” says Harish Consul, president and CEO of the Ocgrow Group.
The Vertos complex is across from Greystone’s 10-acre park that will have all kinds of recreational features, including tennis, basketball and even pickleball courts.
More multi-family developments are coming too, as Avalon Master Builder will also be introducing their Net Zero and Net Zero-ready ZEN Greystone townhomes soon.
These three-bedroom townhomes with backyard and double detached garage are as environmentally minded as they come, as Net Zero townhomes produce as much energy as they consume, and can save big on utility bills.
Recreational haven
The recreation minded buyers will love all that Greystone has to offer. “Greystone is close to the river for walking and being able to utilize the outdoors, the Spray Lakes rec center just next door is a fantastic place for families year-round and really comes to life in the summer with the outdoor water park as well as the large facility for baseball diamonds and pickleball right in the heart of the community,” Prominent Homes Area Sales Manager, Jaclyn Rabaaya, says.
Greystone is also set to have a brand new fully loaded commercial center with grocery, pharmacy, liquor store and food options as well right in the community. “The physical location is also fantastic as you can avoid much of the traffic that most commuters in and out of Cochrane really don’t like as the unique location gives access to the southeast bridge to Rivercrest and also the ability to come through downtown on the NW side and avoid much of the traffic congestion that builds up.”
More to love
Shergill, says they decided to build there for all these reasons. “We really feel that this community is one of the best communities for the town of Cochrane and everyone that is going to live here. We also love the idea of the community being redeveloped from an old gravel and concrete site to becoming something brand new and sustainable for the community, a complete circle of life for this beautiful community.”
Shergill also touts the relative affordability of Cochrane. “Prices are more competitive in Cochrane, and we are able to pass these prices on to our customers where they can save on average 5 to 10 percent lower than the prices we can offer in the city of Calgary.”
“Cochrane is currently the #1 fastest growing region in all of western Canada, and our new urban community of Greystone is what we hope to bring with a new contemporary trendy lifestyle within minutes of all major attractions. We want to maintain that amazing mountain resort luxury lifestyle and be able to live only steps from the Bow River waterfront,” Consul says.
