Form follows function, but when it comes to home design, it does also follow lifestyles. Edmonton homebuilders have catered to homebuyer demands with innovative home floorplans that consider the changing needs of today’s households.

From townhomes that offer a comfy space for work-from-home living, four-bedroom starter homes for multi-generational or blended households, a third-floor loft or over-the-garage suite for extra living space, and more, Edmonton’s homebuilders have come up with inventive solutions for today’s homebuyers.

Edmonton New Home + Condo Guide compiled some of this year’s latest innovations to give our readers some perspective on what is available out there that can fill their specific needs.

Averton

Averton takes pride in its focus on design innovation, which is says is at the heart of everything they do.
“Whether we’re tackling the design of an entire community, the layout of a home, or our sales experience, we’re constantly questioning the status quo and pushing the boundaries of industry tradition to create better living environments and experiences for our homeowners,” says Paul Lanni, President, Averton.

The customer’s needs, however, are at the core of their innovation, he adds. “Averton’s Design Consultation & Selection experience allows homeowners to customize and personalize their homes to a level not typically seen in multi-family sales. Typical options and features of the Midtown Design Consultation & Selection include multiple custom kitchen layout designs, feature-wall options, custom metal railings, and curated modern lighting packages.”

This attention to customer’s needs has paid off handsomely and Averton has amassed a collection of local, provincial, national and even international awards. Most recently, it took home the Best New Community in Edmonton & Best New Community in Alberta for their Midtown townhomes in St. Albert.

“Our Midtown community was purposefully designed by reimagining what a community could look like from the perspective of a resident. This resulted in changing the typical orientation of our townhomes to create safer/walkable streets, more attractive streetscapes, and natural courtyards and amenity areas to encourage social connection between neighbours,” Lanni says.
Other innovative approaches they have introduced are private rooftop terraces for their townhomes at Midtown and Pivot in southwest Edmonton. “These provide a unique option for outdoor entertaining and enjoying surroundings without having to maintain backyards,” he says.

“Our Manhattan Loft-Style townhome model provides an urban, design-forward option in St. Albert. Townhomes in St. Albert are also Solar Panel-ready.”

Averton has several developments in and around Edmonton where their innovative skills can be seen, including the aforementioned Midtown in St. Albert and Pivot in the southwest. But also, in Ambleside also in the southwest, and Prescott in Spruce Grove where move-in ready single-family homes are available. Find out more at averton.ca.

Cantiro

Cantiro has made its mark as one of Edmonton’s most prolific homebuilders with a wide range of multi-family and single-family home designs that address every lifestyle need.

Cantiro has already been twice named Multi-Family Builder of the Year, most recently at the 2022 CHBA Edmonton Awards! This year, it has gathered another slew of finalist nominations. But the company has never been content on sitting on its laurels and is embarking on an ambitious campaign to bring more noteworthy new home developments in the Edmonton region.

Their Life CollectionTM introduced in 2021 offers designs centred on specific lifestyle groups and they have been a big hit. And more are coming.

Taabish Zaver, Cantiro’s Interior Design Manager, was part of the development team that has just released three new home models.

They are all double front-attached garage single family homes, but each are uniquely designed to support a different lifestyle. The Family Aspire 20 with 1,710 square feet of living space is great for first-time homebuyers who want a home that gives them everything the need to succeed; Entertain Engage 22 is 2,132 square-feet and is sure to be a favourite among those that love hosting big get-togethers; while Family Evolve 24 is the largest at 2,201 square-feet and is best for growing families with the option to add a fourth bedroom upstairs.

Zaver is also excited about Cantiro’s new Metro Collection Townhomes that will debut this year.

They will be introduced first in the popular The Hills at Charlesworth and then made available to other Edmonton communities later.

Their innovative Three Storey Single-Family Homes are quickly gaining popularity and favour in The Hills at Charlesworth, as well as Rosenthal and ONE at Keswick communities.

“These homes are designed across three floors of functional living space all above ground, with a rear attached garage,” Zaver says.

“In February, we will also launch two new designs for our Interior Styles for our Life Collection™ Homes – Birch and Shade,” she says.

Shade is the featured Interior Style for 2023, inspired by the return of bold Gothic design that balances light and dark in equal proportions in harmony. Birch offers a different look of natural patterns and motifs with warm upper cabinetry and vinyl plank flooring grounded with a base of black cabinets and fixtures for a contemporary look and feel.

Zaver says Cantiro’s homes are all created to support your family’s lifestyle. “A Cantiro home offers added value through our commitment to life-forward design, enhanced energy efficiency, smart home features for a higher quality lifestyle, and a superior building process, so you can enjoy your home for years to come.”

Rohit Communities

Finely curated home designs have been a hallmark at Rohit Communities, as they master the art of living the dream with magazine-worthy interiors. This year, Rohit is coming out with even more homes that accentuate the style in lifestyle.
“We have new models and communities launching this year.” says Rohit Communities Marketing Manager Lina Nguyen. “Two new single-family home models are coming soon called the Willow and Cooper and will be built in brand-new neighbourhoods like Cambrian in Sherwood Park and Chérot in St. Albert. We will also be launching our newest multifamily development in Glenridding Ravines, bringing spacious three- and two-bed townhomes.”

Rohit Communities is also getting ready to launch their newest Designer Interiors. “Curated by an award-winning designer that will continue to elevate our interior design,” Nguyen adds. “They will be available in all our home types - townhomes, duplexes, and single family across Alberta.”
There is great excitement for the Willow, which incorporates a second-floor office space for the work-from-home set.

“The Willow is a great home for families with parents working from home, incorporating a dedicated second floor office space, and walk-through pantry off the garage entrance for easy unpacking after a grocery trip. In just under 1,900 square-feet, it ticks all the boxes: oversized WIC for the owners suite, central bonus room, full laundry room with storage, along with the option to build a legal suite. This home is going to be our showhome in Chérot opening later this year, so we look forward to having people see it for the first time then.”

Buzz is also building for The Cooper. “We have purposefully designed a stylish layout packed with features within 1,400 square-feet. Upstairs, the WIC is nearly as large as the full bathroom! We’ve also expanded the single car garage to truly be oversized to fit a workbench or bike storage.”

Rohit’s new townhomes in Glenridding Ravine brings an elevated sense of design. “We are launching a brand-new development with designer townhomes that have been popular in communities across Alberta for first time homebuyers and investors,” Nguyen says.

“We’re really looking forward to bringing these new purposefully designed homes where we overthink the design, so our customers don’t have to.” Find out more at rohitcommunities.com.
