Jerome Pusung first learned about Podium Developments and Building Capital’s Ironwood community from a business partner who lives in North Oshawa.

“She shared really good feedback in terms of the area and mentioned that it will be developed more in the future,” Jerome says. “My family and I were looking for something different in a new home, and Ironwood offers townhomes with a backyard and a rooftop terrace. It is rare to find these lifestyle amenities for the right price, but we did.” Starting from the low $500,000s, this townhome collection, which is now under construction, is located just north of Simcoe Street North and Taunton Road.

A managing partner at Sun Life in Scarborough, this community will be an easy commute for both he and his wife, Jerrylyn Antonio, a senior accounting clerk working in downtown Toronto. Access to public transportation is nearby, and Ironwood residents can drive to Hwys 407 and 401 in under 15 minutes. Jerome, Jerrylyn, their young daughter Janiyah (who turns five this year), and his in-laws currently live in a Scarborough condominium. They are all looking forward to the move to Oshawa for many reasons.

“The number-one thing we love is that there is a natural ravine behind the homes,” Jerome said. “We appreciate nature a lot. A trail, playground, outdoor skating rink and toboggan area will be built in the community, so Janiyah is also excited. There will even be a community garden, which is new to us and very interesting. The community is very secure and quiet, with local amenities only minutes away.”

Ironwood is on a private street on an 11-acre property between Camp Samac and Oshawa Creek in Cedar Valley, backing onto hundreds of acres of valley land, forest and stream. Cedar Valley Conservation area and parks are close by. The community is close to shopping, dining, community centres, entertainment, services, seasonal farmers’ markets, Lake Ontario, and is just a 10-minute walk to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.

Jerome and his family selected the 1,553 square-foot, three-bedroom Houndstooth Special design. The basement level includes the garage and storage, and there is also space in the driveway to park a second vehicle. On the first floor, the open-concept main living area and backyard are perfect for the way today’s families like to live. “My in-laws like the kitchen area especially, and we have chosen the extended island,” he says. The second floor includes two of the bedrooms, one bathroom and the laundry facilities. The third floor encompasses the master bedroom with a walk-in closet, the master bath, a small balcony at the front and the rooftop deck at the back.

“We really like this plan because It has everything we were looking for, and more. It reminds us like a bit of New York City, which is known for its rooftop living areas. We have the benefit of being surrounded by nature.” He adds that the sales representatives have been very helpful in their purchase. “From the first time we entered the presentation centre, they were very approachable and knowledgeable. They were always available when we had questions, and the service has been top-notch. They made us feel part of this exclusive community from our first visit.”

Sporting modern architecture, the three- and four-bedroom townhouses at Ironwood offer well-appointed open-concept interiors with large windows and 9-foot ceiling heights on the main and second levels. A minimal fee of approximately $150 per month covers landscaping, snow removal and maintenance.
