What’s happening
University District adds more retailers to its ever-growing commercial centre that underscores the dynamic growth of this young community in the northwest. OEB Breakfast Co. just opened their fourth Calgary location here, and Village Ice Cream has their fifth!
Murrieta’s Hospitality is also bringing in contemporary restaurant called Borough Bar + Grill, which is set to open in Summer 2022, along with The Alley, The Banquet, and Canadian Brewhouse. “The retail businesses are seeing steady traffic and the recent opening of Cineplex VIP Cinemas, OEB and Village Ice Cream have created more awareness for the retail main street due to their popularity,” says Maureen Henderson, Director, Marketing & Communications, at University of Calgary Properties Group, the developers of University District. Homes by Avi marks 24th year of student program
Homes by Avi celebrated over two decades of partnership with Jack James High School with the opening of the latest home that students from the school’s homebuilding training program helped construct.
Avi Amir, Founder and Chairman of Homes by Avi, was on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremonies at the Alexander spec home in the southeast community of Walden. It marks the 24th year of the homebuilding partnership between Homes by Avi and the Jack James HS aimed at introducing students to the skilled trades through a hands-on approach.
“I have participated in this exciting event every year, with the exception of the last two years due to the pandemic. I would like to thank you for choosing a learning path in which you are interested and talented in.” Amir says.
Jack James HS is one of the Calgary Board of Education’s Knowledge and Employability Learning schools. Students work with their teacher alongside Homes by Avi staff to build a new house and develop an understanding of the home building industry and explore career.
“It is an invaluable program that seeks to introduce young minds to the trades,” Homes by Avi CEO, Charron Ungar tells Inside Calgary. “We have some graduates of the program work in our company.” For more information, go to homesbyavi.com.
