Village at Griesbach

Griesbach ribbon cutting ceremony

On February 3rd, a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place to unveil Cecil Bellrose Manor, a new affordable housing complex in Edmonton’s Griesbach neighbourhood. The project, led by the Otipemisiwak Métis Government(formerly the Métis Nation of Alberta), marks an exciting chapter to provide accessible housing for families in need. The complex is named in honour of Cecil Bellrose, a former leader of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, who dedicated his life to improving the rights and housing of Métis families. Cecil Bellrose Manor offers 127 units, with rent set at 79 per cent of the Maximum Allowable Rental Rates (MARR) to ensure access for families who need it most. Forty-two of these units will be barrier-free, with 10 fully automated units. One of the key features of the building is the on-site childcare facility, which will serve up to 48 children at opening, with plans to expand to 72 children within five years. This child-care centre will offer a culturally safe environment for young children, with an emphasis on traditional learning practices, including outdoor space for land-based education and traditional food.
