Moncton growing with Baron Heights subdivision
October 22, 2015
Moncton’s northeast is expanding with the growth of the new Baron Heights subdivision. Located in a beautiful rural setting, the neighbourhood features new homes by Martell Home Builders on lots varying between one to 3.9 acres in size.
Baron Heights is a 10- to 15-minute drive to Moncton’s city centre, and is close to shopping, services, medical facilities, and other amenities as well as the new Moncton High School, the Irishtown Nature Park, and the Royal Oaks Golf Club.
Road improvements
The main roadway to Baron Heights is the busy Elmwood Drive, which stretches from downtown Moncton through the Lewisville/Sunny Brae neighbourhood, out to the Caledonia Industrial Park and past the Trans-Canada Highway to the Irishtown neighbourhood. The new developments have brought more traffic to the area, and the provincial and federal governments have partnered up to expand a 2.2-km. stretch of Elmwood from a two-lane rural, ditch-lined roadway to a four-lane street, complete with concrete curbs, sidewalks, and new storm sewer systems.
Getting back to nature
Baron Heights is located next to the beautiful Irishtown Nature Park, which is home to 250 acres of water and wetlands and 2,200 acres of Acadian forests. The park contains the former one-room Tankville school, which has been restored and now hosts an interpretive centre and museum.
Birdwatching has become a favourite pastime at the park, and there are many kilometres of forested trails, trail systems, footpaths, and nature trails. There are also wheelchair-accessible trails and the park is open for kayaking and canoeing. In the winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular activities.
Education
Baron Heights is located within walking distance of the newly built Moncton High School, and within a short commute to elementary schools and middle schools in the Sunny Brae/Lewisville neighbourhood.
Fore!
The beautiful Royal Oaks Golf Club and subdivision is located across the road from Baron Heights. The Golf Club is considered to be one of the best in the city and also boasts a restaurant and banquet hall.
Growing and growing
Many of the new homes and lots have been sold, but Baron Heights is still expanding and there is plenty of room for families of any size to grow, particularly those who enjoy the great outdoors.
