Just a little bit west of Edmonton, the greenery is greener, the forests are lusher, nature is just that little bit closer at hand. The city of Spruce Grove and the neighbouring town of Stony Plain make this evidently clear with their parks and recreational areas that are attracting several new home opportunities with a family-friendly focus on nature.

Spruce Grove is a city that is 11 kilometres west of Edmonton with a population close to 37,000. It is the ninth largest city in Alberta with a healthy mix of industry, commerce and community that has made it a dynamic “live, work, play” community.

A little further west is the town of Stony Plain, which is likewise on the path to progress with 15,000 residents and an ever-growing string of new residential communities. There are eight schools throughout the town that operate under Parkland Schools. There are over 25 kilometers of trails in the town, and well over 20 playgrounds for residents to enjoy. A golf course, outdoor swimming pool and spray park are also there.

Spruce Grove has attracted land developers Cantiro and Qualico Communities Edmonton to build some of the finest residential communities in the Edmonton area here. Cantiro has four communities under development in Spruce Grove, including Greenbury which they say is the top selling community in the city.

Qualico Communities Edmonton currently is developing Springate at Spruce Grove and soon will add Easton to its list. Meanwhile in, Stony Plain, Qualico already has the three communities of Silverstone, SouthCreek and Westerra already available to new homebuyers.

Spruce Grove

According to the city website, Spruce Grove offers an ideal mix of city conveniences, including shops and restaurants, side-by-side with plenty of recreation and leisure options, including more than 40 kilometres of all-weather trails that connects many of the city’s neighbourhoods, playgrounds and parks.

“With a range of housing options, excellent schools, plenty of sports and culture opportunities, medical facilities, and a diverse business community, Spruce Grove is truly the community of choice,” it adds.

Cantiro believes in Spruce Grove’s potential for growth and has the communities of Greenbury, Kenton Village, Prescott, and the Woods at Kenton already in various stages of development here.

Greenbury is particularly stunning with its beautiful brownstone architecture. It is close to the K–9 Prescott Learning Centre, the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre and the spectacular 60-acre Jubilee Park filled with trees, wetlands, picnic areas and more. Greenbury has also made it a point to include sustainable features in its design including windspires to generate wind power, LED streetlamps, and a green rating program for residents.

Spruce Grove also has a lively arts and culture scene centred at the Horizon Stage Performing Arts Centre. Its history is kept alive at the Spruce Grove Grain Elevator Museum and the Spruce Grove Public Library provides a learning environment for all its residents.
Locals love the Broadway & Grand Café on 248 St Matthews Avenue for its popular stone baked Neapolitan pizza. It is also famous for its Parlour 1919 speakeasy in the same building which serves craft beer on tap and high-end cocktails.

Stony Plain

Just 20 kilometres west of Edmonton, Stony Plain is an idyllic community with parks, recreation facilities, schools, shopping, and more. Qualico Communities Edmonton offers new homes in three distinctive communities here: Westerra, SouthCreek, and Silverstone. All three communities have lush green spaces, scenic views, and artfully designed trails for your family to enjoy.
Some of the features that make these communities special are the multi-use trails and lushly forested environmental reserve that serves as a backdrop in Silverstone; the rich natural scenery along SouthCreek storm pond and the nearby Atim Creek and Stony Plain Golf Course; while Westerra has a nearby high school, modern playgrounds and plenty of green spaces.

Silverstone offer single-family homes with attached garage; SouthCreek has single-family attached garage and rear laned homes, as well as front attached garage duplexes; while Westerra has single-family attached garage and front attached duplex models.

Stony Plain is famous for the many colorful murals that adorn the town depicting important events and people in local history. These murals have netted the town the interesting nickname of ‘The Town with the Painted Past.’ There are over 27 murals all over the town.

There is also a guild specifically geared toward pottery located in the town. This guild also serves as a gallery to show the pottery that has been made by the locals. The Parkland Pioneer Museum is a good place to learn the history of Stony Plain containing over 6,000 artifacts telling of its past.
