10 ridiculously easy ways to organize a tiny kitchen
June 23, 2016
With the price of real estate skyrocketing, many people are opting for smaller living spaces, which furthers the need to maximize every square foot of their home. The kitchen is undoubtedly one of the most difficult rooms to organize when living in a small space. That said, here are 10 ideas to create storage in otherwise wasted space.
1. Utilize under-the-sink counters
Utilize the doors of under-the-sink cupboards to store counter-hogging items such as dishcloths, rubber gloves, and scrubbies. Hang a pocket organizer on the inside of the door to store messy-but-necessary items.
2. Turn a wooden cutting board into counter space
Extend your counter space by fitting a wooden cutting board over the sink. Use it to chop veggies, butter toast, hold the teapot, or for any kitchen task that requires more room.
3. Invest in corkboards
Hang corkboards on the inside of cupboard doors to hold measuring cups, recipes, or coupons.
4. Add drawers
If you've always been confused by the fake drawers on the front of your sink, reclaim that space and install a couple of real drawers that tip out. These are handy for sponges and scrubbing brushes needed at the sink.
5. Add shelves on cupboards
Make use of the bare sides of cabinets that face your sink. Hang salad servers, eggbeaters, and other kitchen utensils. Or install shelves for glasses and cups.
6. Create a kitchen nook
Invest in a kitchen table that folds flat to the wall. Or, if you're the DIY type and have a kitchen nook, construct an eating area with a small bench and built-in storage under the seat.
7. Add a pegboard
Make a pegboard organizer for a blank wall. Hang pots and pans, cutlery holders, utensils, and anything else you need.
8. Use a magnet strip for knives
Install a magnetic strip over the sink or on the fridge. Use it to store cutting knives and get rid of that space-wasting wooden knife block.
9. Add a "Lazy Susan"
Invest in a “Lazy Susan” to make the most of those hard-to-reach places in corner cabinets. Or attach a few nails or hooks to hang pots and pans.
10. Build stackable shelves
Install stackable shelves in the cupboard to make use of the wasted space between existing shelves.
When looking for storage ideas for organizing a tiny kitchen, you're limited only by your imagination. Get creative!
