8 reasons to move to Charlottetown
October 20, 2015
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI) is a charming Maritime city with a small-town feel. If you haven’t already thought about moving there, here are a few top reasons why you should consider a life on the east coast.
1. The best of a big city
It’s a small town with a big-city feel that comes without the big-city hassles. Housing costs are generally lower than in a big city, and a lower population equals less traffic. The pace of life here is a bit more relaxed, the people are friendly, and it’s a good place to raise a family.
2. Education
Aside from basic elementary and secondary schools, Holland College and the University of PEI offer a variety of programs.
3. Scenery and beaches
PEI is a beautiful place, and Charlottetown is no exception. Confederation Trail offers lovely vistas and Victoria Park, with its waterfront boardwalk, is gorgeous. And since it’s an island, there are beaches! Just minutes from Charlottetown, residents can enjoy the charming Brackley Beach and the touristy-but-fun Cavendish Beach.
4. Food
From PEI potatoes to local seafood (lobster!) and Cows Ice Cream, what’s not to love among all the delicious restaurant offerings available? (BOOMburger, anyone?)
5. Shopping and services
Charlottetown is small, but it’s got the goods. Confederation Court and Charlottetown Mall share the city with the usual big box stores (Walmart, Home Depot, Loblaws) as well as smaller independent stores. Charlottetown also features schools, hospitals, churches, banks, automotive industry, and much more.
6. Golf courses
Prince Edward Island is definitely the place to play golf! Charlottetown boasts the lovely Belvedere Golf Club, and there are approximately 25 courses island-wide.
7. Home of Anne of Green Gables
Lucy Maud Montgomery created a phenomenal book series about a little orphan girl named Anne who came to live at Green Gables, and the rest is history. The series was inspired by her life on Prince Edward Island, and you’ll encounter all things Anne wherever you go. There are also many other great cultural attractions too.
8. Birthplace of Canada
Charlottetown played host to the birth of Canada back in 1867. Confederation Centre is a must for anyone interested in our nation’s history.
