Have you ever considered commuter cycling in the winter? Crazy, right? You’d actually be surprised at how many Calgarians actually take part in this somewhat extreme sport on a daily basis throughout our coldest months.Though Chinook days can be quite pleasant for Calgarians to take in a bike ride or two, you would be shocked to know that many people do it every single day, no matter the windchill or snow conditions. So, what does the average winter cyclist look like? The University of Calgary conducted a study on approximately 2,000 Calgary cyclists and found that the average winter cyclist is a middle-aged man who commutes every single day by his sturdy two wheels. Nearly 25 per cent of the cyclists surveyed said they would continue to cycle despite icy cold temperatures – including below -20 C! Keep an eye out for these extreme winter cyclists out there on the streets and drive safely!
