Forging a new path to explore Calgary’s new-home market

There’s a saying that goes: “When one door closes, another opens.” There are instances when that door is a revolving one. That particular instance hasn’t been the case in my experience, but I am taking my “Next” step.

After more than a decade as the editor of Calgary’s New Home Living and Condo Living magazines, I am joining the NextHome team as the editor for its Calgary New Home + Condo Guide.

It is clear that the Calgary new home industry is not one I can simply walk away from, and when the opportunity opened to join NextHome, I jumped at the chance.

You can still expect in-depth and informative stories from us, ranging from profiles that spotlight the best new homes and communities in the city, market analyses that give a balanced outlook on what is to come, and style tips that can guide you in creating the look of your home. We can offer you, the reader, articles that give a rare insight and access to all the matters that help in making your decision of where, when, and who to build your home with.

We’re excited to start this conversation anew, and that conversation begins in this issue. We start with our cover feature on Heartland in Cochrane, Apex Development’s popular community just west of Calgary and why its growing number of residents love it so.

We also have a feature on the challenges facing Calgary’s market as outlined by Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) president, Stefanie Coleman, when she spoke at the recent BILD Calgary annual economic forecast dinner. This underlines our renewed focus on hyper-local content that Calgarians expect from us.

I am excited to continue charting the continued growth of Calgary’s communities. I look forward to taking this next part of the journey with you.
