Inside Ottawa
October 09, 2020
One World Bazaar is an Ottawa community tradition Located in Manotick Station, in the south end of Ottawa, One World Bazaar operates during the fall months for seven weekends in a row.
The family-owned bazaar is located in a rustic barn that’s been reimagined as an international marketplace. The team works directly with artisans worldwide to ethically source unique home decor, clothing, furniture, art, linens and jewellery pieces. The last weekend to visit is the weekend of November 6, 7 and 8. Bring your mask and please stay home if you’re unwell. COVID-19 protocols are in place. www.OneWorldBazaar.ca
Make an appointment to visit Phoenix Homes’ newest models
It’s a quick drive from Kanata to Diamondview Estates in Carp so I made an appointment to visit Phoenix’s two new model homes, the Springfield and the Newington.
Nestled in an enclave of 50-60 ft. lots, it’s an easy commute to plenty of major amenities such as Tanger Outlets, Kanata Centrum and the Kanata High Tech Park.
Both of these beautiful models are finalists for a Housing Design Award put on by the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association. The models are open Saturday through Thursday, by appointment only, please.
Plenty of progress at Miller’s Crossing in convenient Carleton Place
According to Cardel’s fabulous Facebook page, the Miller’s Crossing community in Carleton Place is progressing nicely.
The new townhomes along Stokes Drive are looking terrific, and several local streets, such as Captain A. Roy Brown, Fanning Street, and Stanzel Drive have been paved.
For more info on how to live under this big sky, book an appointment with Lynne on Cardel’s website. CardelHomes.com
Fun fact: The street names in Miller’s Crossing have been named in honour of those who have served.
Gemstone Corp. shines at Peridot
The views from Gemstone Corporation’s Peridot community will “WOW” you regardless of the season.
At an open house held on Sept. 27, everyone was invited to witness the fall colours from the rooftop terrace of the Fuller Model.
With the Rideau Canal and the Experimental Farm backing onto the property, residents will enjoy access to a network of bike paths and parks, plus the amenities of Dow’s Lake and Preston Street are all nearby. These luxury single family homes, designed by Hobin Architecture, are bright, well-scaled, and filled with everyday practicalities — all just 10 minutes from downtown Ottawa!
And the finalists for this year’s Housing Design Awards are…
Event season continues with the announcement of the finalists for the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association’s (GOHBA) upcoming Housing Design Awards!
These awards are always an exciting look at all of the beautiful homes and interiors that are being created by our local building community.
I had the privilege of walking through many of the model homes that are up for awards this year — here’s a few snaps of my favourites!
The winners will be chosen during a virtual awards presentation on Friday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m.

EQ Awards – The winners have been announced
The leaders of the Ontario building industry recently held a virtual event to celebrate, connect and share their successes at the EQ Awards.
EnerQuality is the No. 1 certifier of energy-efficient housing in Canada and the market leader in residential green building programs.
This year’s awards also served as a catalyst for the industry to collectively take action with the attendees raising $3,825 for Second Harvest this year – enough to provide nearly 8,000 meals to their agencies.
Several new awards were added this year, including the Green Renovation Project of the Year and Licensed Professional of the Year.
This year, the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association (GOHBA) walked away with the Home Builder Association of the Year and GOHBA President Roy Nandram of RND Construction Ltd., was named as Champion of the Year.
Congratulations to all of the winners this year!
