A charming city located along the banks of the Petitcodiac River, Moncton features fun tourist attractions like Magnetic Hill, Magic Mountain Water Park and the Tidal Bore in addition to its beautiful salt water beaches, Cape Enrage and the Bay of Fundy. But when you’re looking for things to do in Moncton that are a little more low-key, check out this list of hidden gems.

Capitol Theatre

Capitol Theatre, Moncton

Built in the 1920s, this beautiful historic theatre in downtown Moncton was restored to its former glory in 1993. Today visitors flock here from far and wide for almost any type of live show, from live rock bands to classical ballet and musical theatre. Better yet, its staggered design provides a great view from any seat.

Deluxe Fish and Chips

Deluxe Fish and Chips, Moncton

In a region known for its delicious seafood, Moncton has plenty of seafood restaurants on offer. Deluxe Fish and Chips started out as a small canteen on St. George St. back in 1949 and has quickly grown into an inexpensive local mainstay. They have several locations, always busy, throughout Moncton.

Chez Memere Poutines Rapees

Tucked into a strip mall along Lewisville Road and decorated with local Acadian art (which is for sale), this small diner/takeout serves an old-school Acadian favourite, poutines rapees. Poutines rapees are a delicious version of basic “meat and potatoes” – a ball of salt pork wrapped in a ball of seasoned potatoes and boiled for hours until firm.

Centennial Park

Located along St. George Blvd., this large middle-city park is open year-round and has something for everyone. Lighted hiking and cross-country ski trails open up the forested area and lead to a boating pond, artificial beach, dog park, splash park and playground, rotary lodge, football field, aerial adventure course, and much more!

Jones Lake

Jones Lake, Moncton

Jones Lake is a scenic area located on West Main St. It is surrounded by 3 km of groomed trails, and has a small dock, observation area, picnic tables and benches.

Steeves, Lutes and Indian Mountain

Old Homestead Road, Moncton

Moncton lies along a stretch of small mountains. The main roads along these mountains offer spectacular views of the city, the surrounding forest and farther-off Caledonia Mountains. Old Homestead Road, Upper Mountain Road and Ammon Road make for a very photogenic route.

Aberdeen Cultural Centre Culturel Aberdeen

Aberdeen Cultural Centre Culturel Aberdeen, Moncton

Formerly a secondary school built in 1898 on Botsford St., this beautiful old brick-and-stone building has been repurposed as a cultural and artistic haven. The school grounds have been transformed into a large garden with benches, paths and a fountain, and the Centre is home to more than twenty art studios, galleries, workshops, an auditorium and even a daycare.
